The purpose of this job is to operate a wastewater treatment plant in a training capacity. This position works under close supervision according to set procedures.
- Learns to operate a wastewater treatment plant; takes samples; performs routine tests; helps to ensure proper plant operation; maintains records and files.
- Makes regular inspection of plant and equipment to ascertain that it is always in proper operation.
- Collects samples for testing; performs tests relating to plant operations.
- Checks all plant equipment and biological and chemical systems for proper operation and takes necessary corrective actions.
- Makes changes in plant process as necessary to improve plant efficiency.
- Reads meters, gauges and dials and keeps logs of readings.
- Reports needs for equipment repairs.
- Back washes filters; fills chemical feeder hoppers.
- Performs minor plant maintenance, grounds keeping and housekeeping duties.
- Performs related work as required.
Some knowledge of wastewater treatment plant principles and operating practices; some knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of a wastewater treatment plant; ability to detect flaws in the operation of equipment and to determine proper remedial measures; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates; ability to keep records and prepare reports.Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one (1) year of college.
