Job summary

The Kankakee River Metropolitan Agency (KRMA) seeks an Assistant Superintendent to lead the operation and maintenance of the POTW, reporting to the Superintendent. The role involves directing staff, procuring equipment, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring regulatory compliance across federal, state, and local mandates.

The ideal candidate holds a relevant degree, 2–5 years in a supervisory POTW setting, and either holds or can obtain the Illinois Class 1 Wastewater Operator License within 12

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in water/wastewater, biology, chemistry, engineering or related field, or equivalent education/experience
• 2–5 years in a supervisory leadership role at a POTW
• Illinois Class 1 Wastewater Operator License or ability to obtain within 12 months of appointment

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operation and maintenance of the POTW facility
• Direct daily work assignments to Operations Manager and staff
• Procure plant equipment, parts, and supplies to meet operational needs
• Coordinate with vendors for timely maintenance of plant equipment
• Oversee asset management software and the plant work order system
• Monitor plant processes for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and permits
• Collaborate with laboratory staff on process control decisions
• Attend all Board of Directors meetings and present reports
• Prepare reports to the Board of Directors and IEPA
