Job summary

Valence Surface Technologies is seeking a hazardous waste technician to monitor, operate, and maintain treatment and chemical processing equipment. The role involves calibration, maintenance, and reliable handling of hazardous materials in a safety-focused environment.

Responsibilities include inspecting equipment, performing repairs, and supporting compliance with environmental regulations. The position requires physical capability and adherence to PPE protocols in shop conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate wastewater/chemical processing equipment and pumps.
  • Maintain, repair, and calibrate instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Calibrate pH and ORP probes and controllers and ensure proper function.
  • Safely handle hazardous waste storage, labeling, and transport to disposal areas.
  • Respond to spills and maintain compliance with hazardous waste regulations.
  • Assist in general duties to support environmental compliance.

Job description

Essential Functions
  • Monitor the performance of all equipment, gauges, and charts in the treatment plant and pump stations; Replace equipment when necessary
  • Operate, maintain and repair malfunctions at the wastewater treatment plant
  • Maintain, modify or repair instrumentation and control equipment including recorders, flow meter, and other water quality monitoring equipment
  • Calibrate, clean and ensure proper function of pH and ORP probes and controllers
  • Operate and maintain rise pump stations
  • Clean wet wells and operate pumps and valves to control and adjust flow and treatment process
  • Setup hazardous waste cubic yard storage containers with proper labeling
  • Operate sludge pump and filter press
  • Collect, segregate, and transport hazardous waste from generation points to the hazardous waste storage area
  • Label and sign appropriate hazardous and chemical reactants
  • Inspect facility where hazardous waste is stored and evaluate compliance; track accumulation start dates of satellite storage containers
  • Compile and maintain list of hazardous waste needing disposal and organize the waste for transport and disposal
  • Review hazardous waste manifests and accompanying land disposal restriction notification forms for compliance
  • Respond to hazardous waste spills in emergency situations
  • Responsible for chemical process tank additions, make ups and remakes
  • Assist in other duties as needed to ensure environmental compliance throughout the chemical processing facility

  • TALKING: Ability to speak effectively and communicate clearly
  • AVERAGE HEARING: Able to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction
  • REPETITIVE MOTION: The employee is required to frequently stand and lift objects
  • FINGER DEXTERITY: The employee is regularly required to use hands to operate objects, tools or controls
  • AVERAGE VISION: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • PHYSICAL STRENGTH: The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS

The position involves working with and around hazardous chemicals, paints and solvents. Must be safety oriented and able to war the appropriate attires and PPE. The majority of work is performed in shop conditions and can be in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer season.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers and common fractions.

LANGUAGE ABILITY

Ability to communicate clearly

$25.00-$30.00
