Amentum seeks a Wastewater Operator IV to join our Facilities Maintenance team in Des Moines, IA. Typical hours are Monday–Friday, 1st shift; overtime may occur based on demand.

The role focuses on monitoring, adjusting, and cleaning treatment equipment, lab testing, chemical handling, and housekeeping. Responsibilities include operating the treatment plant, following SOPs, auditing, sampling, data recording, and coordinating with maintenance staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Four years of experience as a Wastewater Treatment Operator or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain site security access.
• Must pass medical evaluation for respirator use and respirator fit test.
• Must pass pre-employment drug test.
• Valid Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains industrial wastewater treatment plant.
• Monitors alarms, data dashboards and diagnostics; takes corrective action.
• Collects samples and conducts in-plant tests to control processes.
• Follows SOPs and safety procedures; performs preventive maintenance on pumps and chemical feed equipment.

Job description

Amentum is seeking a Wastewater Operator IV to join our Facilities Maintenance team in Des Moines, IA.

Typical hours: Monday-Friday, 1st shift; overtime and hours may vary based on customer demand.

This position will primarily perform monitoring, adjustment, and cleaning of process treatment equipment, lab testing of waste streams, general maintenance, safe handling and transfer of chemicals and waste streams, and general housekeeping.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Operates and maintains industrial wastewater Treatment Plant.
• Follow wastewater treatment manual/SoP activities as documented.
• Participate in internal audits and inspections as required
• Clean out filters when necessary.
• Run the press when necessary.
• Monitor alarms, data dashboard and other diagnostics to ensure the system is running properly and take action to correct inconsistencies when necessary.
• Monitor chemical levels in the chemical holding room.
• Clean out used oil drums and operate the drum crushing machine.
• Work closely with maintenance personnel to ensure the wastewater pre-treatment system is well maintained.
• Follows procedures regarding cleaning, equipment uses, maintenance, calibration, and safe handling of chemicals.
• Collects samples and conducts the in-plant tests necessary to control and monitor treatment facility processes and operation
• Performs in-plant operational control tests and process calculations, using various analytical instruments and mathematical calculations.
• Records in-plant test results, various meter readings, gauge reading, flow quantities and other technical data.
• Performs in-plant maintenance according to the schedules and procedures established for the facilities to which assigned. This includes cleaning, servicing, lubricating, and repairing pumps, chemical feed equipment, electrical/ mechanical devices regularly found in water, wastewater, and industrial wastewater treatment facilities.

• Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
• Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.
• Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.
• Demonstrate attention to detail, good comprehensive and analytical skills, and excellent organizational skills.
• Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.
• Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
• Four years of experience as a Wastewater Treatment Operator in water/wastewater treatment or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience

Additional Information:

• Qualified applicants offered a position must be able to obtain site specific security access including all applicable background checks.
• Qualified applicants must pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and be able to successfully complete a fit test for each type of respirator needed for the position or for an approved alternate respirator that provides equal or better protection from identified hazards.

• Requires a valid Driver’s License.

• This position may require overtime, various shifts, weekends, holidays, and alternative work schedules.

Physical/Special Requirements:

• Requires the ability to regularly lift to 50 lbs.
• Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.
• Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.
• Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.
• Requires the ability to regularly move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
• Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
• Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
• Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.
• Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
• Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
• Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

• Wear steel toe/Metatarsal safety footwear, safety glasses, gloves, bump/hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as required.
• Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Other Attributes:

• Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays & weekends.

Compensation Details:

$30 - $32
