Job summary

A leading company in water treatment is seeking an Operator in Training (OIT) to assist in the operation and maintenance of wastewater facilities. The role involves equipment operation, troubleshooting, and performing lab tests. Candidates must possess strong communication skills and a valid California Driver’s License. This position may require working weekends and travel between job sites.

Job description

ObjectiveReporting directly to the Director of Operations, the OIT has full responsibility for assisting in the successful operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment facility, collections system, and Leach Field System. The OIT will also receive directions on a daily basis from the Lead Plant Operator.Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform equipment operation and maintenance
  • Troubleshoot process and equipment problems
  • Operate, inspect, and service the Leach Field System at a different location.
  • Perform in-house laboratory tests and analyze lab tests
  • Operate valves & equipment
  • Communicate any problems/issues to supervisor
  • Promote and adhere to PERC’s written corporate Safety program
  • All other tasks as assigned by the Area Operations Manager
  • Maintain acceptable attendance per PERC standards
  • General housekeeping and cleanup as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  1. General computer skills including good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  2. Excellent team-working and communications skills to enable effective interaction with other PERC Water personnel, including peers.
  3. Physical:
    • Body Positions: Standing, sitting for extended periods of time, walking.
    • Body Movements: Use of hands, eyes, arms and voice. Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
    • Must be able to climb up and down stairs and ladders and climb into process tanks and enclosures.
    • Must be able to work weekends, nights or holidays as needed.
    • Must be able to travel from jobsite to jobsite at various locations surrounding the area.
  4. Mental:
    • Language ability includes reading, writing, spelling, and the ability to communicate clearly on business topics in English.
Education, Professional Credentials and Experience
  1. Valid California Driver’s License (Class A)
  2. High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
U.S. Salary Range
  • $20-$25/hr.
