Job summary

The City of Box Elder in South Dakota is hiring a Wastewater Operator to join our Public Works team. Depending on qualifications, you may begin as a Wastewater Operator I, II, or III. This is a full-time benefitted position located in the City of Box Elder, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m.

to 5:00 p.m. and an option for four 10‑hour days. You will operate equipment to support wastewater operations, perform maintenance and repairs, collect samples, keep records, and assist with

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; maintenance/construction experience preferred.
• Ability to learn operation of various equipment and perform basic records.
• Must be able to obtain required certifications/license within specified timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment to assist in wastewater operations, maintenance, and repair.
• Perform preventative maintenance on related equipment.
• Collect water samples and perform basic analyses.
• Maintain records and logs; monitor for equipment malfunctions.
• Assist with locating underground utilities and general site duties.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies and assist with city events.
