Job summary

Veolia Water Technology is seeking a dedicated Wastewater Plant Operator to manage and monitor the treatment systems for clean discharge. You will operate pumps, valves, and motors, collect samples, and analyze lab data to ensure compliant operations.

The role demands lifting up to 75 pounds, working day or night shifts, and collaborating with a team to optimize processes. Training and safety are emphasized in a dynamic outdoor plant setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred: wastewater entry-level licensing or certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintain complete operational coverage of the wastewater facility during scheduled shifts (primarily 12-hour night shifts).
• Operate and control pumps, motors, and valves to regulate water flow; collect and test samples to determine concentrations and impurities.
• Analyze lab data to identify treatment issues and implement changes to prevent non-compliance; maintain accurate records.
• Coordinate with operators, facility, and Veolia management to optimize treatment methods.
• Complete preventative maintenance and assist with minor projects (pump repair, valve replacement, piping).
• Prepare daily/weekly/monthly operating reports for Veolia and facility management; may report to EPA/state bodies.
• Coordinate with purchasing and facility to schedule third-party maintenance; perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Job Summary

This position is responsible for controlling the Wastewater treatment plant's systems and equipment to purify and clarify water for permitted industrial discharge at the Wastewater facility.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain complete operational coverage of the Wastewater facility throughout all scheduled shifts (primarily 12-hour night shifts)
• Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flow; collect and test wastewater samples to determine concentration levels and impurities
• Analyze lab data to identify potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non-compliance; maintain accurate record keeping of client data
• Coordinate with other operators, Wastewater facility, and Veolia management to maintain wastewater treatment equipment and determine optimal treatment methods
• Complete all preventative maintenance at designated frequencies and assist with minor maintenance projects including chemical pump repair, valve replacement, and piping installation
• Compile data for daily, weekly, or monthly operating reports to Veolia and Wastewater facility management; may compile data for EPA or state regulatory bodies
• Coordinate with Veolia purchasing department to order wastewater treatment supplies and with Facility to schedule third-party maintenance support
• Other Duties as assigned

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google equivalent
• Strong communication skills, both verbally and written
• Ability to make process changes based on lab data and general process knowledge
• Ability to lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds, climb vertical ladders up to 30 feet, stand for long periods, walk on uneven surfaces, and maneuver in tight spaces
• Ability to work both day and night shifts as needed

Education & Experience

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred

• Wastewater entry level licensing or certification

Working Conditions

• Typical working conditions include a wastewater treatment plant and outdoors
• Exposure to extreme weather conditions (extreme heat and cold)
• Potential exposure to burns, chemicals, dangerous systems, dirt and dust, electrical hazards, grease and oil, loud noises, vibrations, steam and high levels of moisture, and other hazardous conditions
• Physical requirements: lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds, climb a vertical ladder up to 30 feet, stand for long periods of time, walk on uneven surfaces, regular bending, climb onto and exit a forklift in a safe manner, use of extension ladders on a daily basis, ability to climb into and maneuver body in tight spaces
• Ability to work both day and night shifts as needed, with primary shift designation being 12-hour night shifts
