Job summary

Veolia is seeking a Wastewater Plant Operator to monitor and control the treatment systems at our facility. You will operate electric motors, pumps, and valves, test samples, and ensure compliant, efficient processes.

The role emphasizes teamwork, strong communication, and the ability to work 12-hour night shifts in outdoor environments. A high school diploma is required, with wastewater licensing preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to operate treatment equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and climb ladders safely.
  • Willingness to work 12-hour night shifts and flexible day/night hours.
  • Licensing in wastewater treatment is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain operability of the Wastewater facility across all shifts (primarily 12-hour night shifts).
  • Operate motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow; collect and test wastewater samples.
  • Analyze lab data to identify treatment issues and implement process changes.
  • Coordinate with facility teams and Veolia management to support operations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and assist with minor repairs (pumps, valves, piping).
  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly operation reports for Veolia and regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate with purchasing to order supplies and schedule third-party maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description
Job Summary

This position is responsible for controlling the Wastewater treatment plant's systems and equipment topurify and clarify water for permitted industrial discharge at the Wastewater facility.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain complete operational coverage of the Wastewater facility throughout all scheduledshifts (primarily 12-hour night shifts)
  • Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flow; collect and testwastewater samples to determine concentration levels and impurities
  • Analyze lab data to identify potential treatment issues and implement process changes toprevent non-compliance; maintain accurate record keeping of client data
  • Coordinate with other operators, Wastewater facility, and Veolia management to maintainwastewater treatment equipment and determine optimal treatment methods
  • Complete all preventative maintenance at designated frequencies and assist with minormaintenance projects including chemical pump repair, valve replacement, and piping installation
  • Compile data for daily, weekly, or monthly operating reports to Veolia and Wastewater facilitymanagement; may compile data for EPA or state regulatory bodies

  • Coordinate with Veolia purchasing department to order wastewater treatment supplies and with facility to schedule third-party maintenance support

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google equivalent
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Ability to make process changes based on lab data and general process knowledge
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds, climb vertical ladders up to 30 feet, stand for longperiods, walk on uneven surfaces, and maneuver in tight spaces
  • Ability to work both day and night shifts as needed
Qualifications

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
Preferred
  • Wastewater entry level licensing or certification
Working Conditions
  • Typical working conditions include a wastewater treatment plant and outdoors
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions (extreme heat and cold)
  • Potential exposure to burns, chemicals, dangerous systems, dirt and dust, electrical hazards,grease and oil, loud noises, vibrations, steam and high levels of moisture, and other hazardousconditions
  • Physical requirements: lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds, climb a vertical ladder up to 30 feet,stand for long periods of time, walk on uneven surfaces, regular bending, climb onto and exit aforklift in a safe manner, use of extension ladders on a daily basis, ability to climb into andmaneuver body in tight spaces
  • Ability to work both day and night shifts as needed, with primary shift designation being 12-hournight shifts
