Job summary

Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department is seeking a Wastewater Laboratory Chemist to analyze wastewater samples, calibrate instruments, and ensure data quality and regulatory compliance. You will operate GC, GC-MS and other analytical instruments, prepare samples, and maintain comprehensive records.

The role requires a chemistry-related degree and relevant laboratory experience. Preference for experience with water/wastewater analyses and instrument maintenance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, microbiology, environmental science, biology or related science with two years of professional laboratory experience.
• OR: Two years with Pima County as Laboratory Technician.
• Education and experience must be documented in the application.

Responsibilities

• Performs sophisticated chemical and microbial analyses.
• Operates GC, GC-MS and other analytical instrumentation (IC, AAS, ICP/MS, ICP/OES).
• Obtains water samples and records results.
• Prepares samples using chemical extraction and digestion techniques.
• Maintains records and logs, enters data and prepares reports.
• Monitors data quality and assists in training staff.
• Assists in writing SOPs and laboratory audit procedures.
• Ensures QA/QC procedures to comply with regulatory requirements.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, microbiology, environmental science, biology or related science

Two years of professional laboratory experience OR two years with Pima County as Laboratory Technician
