Job summary

The Town of Gilbert is hiring a Wastewater Utility Worker III to operate heavy equipment and oversee maintenance of the municipal wastewater system. This role supports the Wastewater Utility Supervisor and focuses on keeping critical infrastructure running safely for Gilbert residents.

The position emphasizes hands-on problem solving, field work, and readiness to respond to emergencies. A background check and drug screen are required, with a strong safety culture throughout the department.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED and relevant technical training in water and wastewater.
• Multiple certifications in wastewater/ water distribution enablement or related fields.
• Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement is required on hire or promotion.
• Industry certifications (NASSCO, ADEQ) are preferred or required within specified timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and train crews on installation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater system.
• Operate heavy equipment including dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, CCTV equipment, and sewer cleaners.
• Monitor and troubleshoot wastewater and reclaimed water distribution systems; recommend actions.
• Inspect and repair gravity mains, force mains, manholes, and lift stations.
• Respond to emergencies and after-hours callouts on a 24-hour on-call basis.
