Job summary

City of Chesapeake is seeking a Crew Leader to supervise 2–6 crews in the Public Utilities division, focusing on safety, training, and timely maintenance of the wastewater collection system. You will lead a small team, coordinate with GIS, and manage field operations.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, at least 1 year of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and may require a CDL within six months. Based in Chesapeake, VA with a 40+ hour week.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma, GED / HSE or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of related full‑time experience.
• Valid driver’s license with driving record in compliance with city standards.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required.
• Must be able to work overtime during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Lead crews of 2–6 people, train and ensure safety compliance.
• Repair and maintain Chesapeake’s wastewater collection system infrastructure.
• Coordinate with GIS technician to document sewer assets.
• Operate/maintain heavy equipment and keep tool inventory up to date.
• Develop valve maintenance schedules and secure resources for tasks.
• Complete logs, timecards and monthly reports; assist with budgets and inventory.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
