Job Description

Position Purpose: The Wastewater Compliance Specialist oversees all regulatory compliance aspects for 8 domestic wastewater treatment plants, collection systems, and 3 industrial wastewater operations associated with the Haworth, Wyandotte, and Allendale New Street WTPs in northern New Jersey. The role ensures adherence to NJDEP, EPA, and local regulations, implementing compliance measures, conducting audits, and coordinating with plant managers.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Monitor compliance with NJDEP, EPA, and local regulations for wastewater treatment plants and collection systems.
  • Create internal trending reports and analyze data trends.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and inspections.
  • Coordinate with plant managers to meet operational and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and submit compliance reports and permit applications.
  • Develop sampling schedules and coordinate sample collection.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and inform relevant personnel.
  • Develop and deliver compliance training programs.
  • Address compliance issues or violations promptly.
  • Assist in policy development and revisions.
  • Support operations in developing permit-required SOPs and O&M documents.
  • Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, preferably within New Jersey.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Familiarity with NJDEP, EPA, and local wastewater regulations.
  • Deep understanding of wastewater treatment processes and compliance.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • Ability to conduct compliance audits and inspections.
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with agencies and staff.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training programs.

Additional Information

  • Pay Range: $80,000 - $90,000/year
  • Benefits include health, dental, vision insurance, paid time off, 401(k), and performance bonuses.
