Job summary

The City of Columbia SC is seeking trainees to support the wastewater collection system. This role involves heavy physical outdoor work, basic repairs, and learning a structured training program.

It requires a valid SC driver’s license and eventual CDL with tanker endorsement, plus ability to obtain several safety certifications within a year. Salary varies by certification level, with progression through Trainee up to Operator levels and corresponding pay grades.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic algebra and geometry; ability to compute discounts and interest rates.
• Ability to gather, organize, analyze and evaluate data.
• Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, manuals and charts.

Responsibilities

• Assist with cleaning, inspecting, repairing and replacing pipes and appurtenances in the wastewater collection system.
• Assist in maintaining vehicles and equipment; perform general manual labor.
• Work may require overtime hours, on-call rotation and shift changes with notice.
