Purpose
Wastewater Treatment Operator – responsible for maintaining, operating, and optimizing wastewater treatment facilities. Reports to the Operations Supervisor and performs technical and mechanical tasks to ensure efficient operation, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Accountabilities
- Assists supervisor with daily operations, maintenance, and repair tasks, including reviewing computer‑generated maintenance assignments and complying with SOPs.
- Collects samples and performs laboratory testing for regulatory compliance.
- Provides technical training to Operators on plant equipment, instrumentation, microbiology, and plant process control; writes training standards and qualifications.
- Executes administrative duties such as writing plant directives, recommending process improvements, and maintaining records.
- Conducts daily inspections of treatment and conveyance facilities, records equipment and process readings, and adjusts operations to maintain system flow and stability.
- Prepares required regulatory reports, assembles inspection documentation, and communicates findings to supervisors.
- Adheres to industry and company safety standards, policies, and procedures; submits required records and reports.
- Performs routine and emergency operational, maintenance, construction, and repair functions of wastewater reclamation infrastructure.
- Ensures open communication with internal and external customers, including co‑workers, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Encourages continuous improvement by streamlining work processes, reducing turnaround times, and promoting cost‑effective use of utility resources.
Education and Experience
- Specialized knowledge of wells, pumps, motors, chlorine generators, and plumbing principles.
- Five years of experience in plumbing, well operation, distribution, collection water, and/or wastewater treatment; at least 12 months as a Field Operator II or equivalent.
- Valid state driver’s license; CDL may be required for certain locations.
- Arizona locations: ADEQ Grade 3 Operator License in Wastewater Treatment, Water Distribution, Collections, or Water Treatment; additional Grade 2 certification required within 6 months if applicable.
