We are seeking an experienced and highly knowledgeable Wastewater Biosolids Operations Expert to lead and optimize our biosolids management and processing operations. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical and operational expertise in wastewater treatment processes, with a strong focus on biosolids stabilization, dewatering, hauling, land application, and regulatory compliance

Schedule: 40 hours Overtime as required

Position Summary

The Biosolids expert is responsible for managing the company’s sludge hauling operations. This key role will create and manage a comprehensive program that maximizes efficiency and expense reduction. The role requires deep technical and operational expertise in wastewater treatment processes.

Major Job Duties

  • Facilitate and lead a process of improving efficiency and reducing the cost of biosolids company wide
  • Manage day-to-day operations of biosolids treatment and handling systems, including digestion, dewatering (centrifuge/belt press), storage, and final disposal
  • Ensure biosolids operations comply with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations (e.g., EPA 503, state biosolids permits)
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), preventative maintenance schedules, and safety protocols specific to biosolids operations
  • Monitor biosolids quality parameters (e.g., volatile solids reduction, pathogen reduction, metal content) and maintain comprehensive documentation
  • Oversee biosolids hauling and land application or beneficial reuse programs in compliance with environmental permits and contracts
  • Collaborate with engineering, compliance, and laboratory staff to optimize treatment processes and improve biosolids product quality
  • Train and mentor operational staff on biosolids handling, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert during audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting
  • Participate in sustainability initiatives related to biosolids reuse, energy recovery, and process optimization
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in biosolids operations within a municipal or industrial wastewater treatment facility
  • In-depth knowledge of biosolids treatment technologies and regulatory frameworks.
  • Relevant wastewater operator certification (e.g., Class III or IV) preferred
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in SCADA systems and laboratory data interpretation
  • Knowledge of emerging biosolids technologies (e.g., thermal hydrolysis, pyrolysis, composting).
  • Familiarity with land application program management and nutrient management planning.
