Job Description

The Waste & Recycle Driver in Denali National Park has a Class A CDL and drives a tractor trailer, shuttle bus, 1 or 2-ton truck, or other large vessel hauling vehicle. Drivers in this position are required to operate an efficient, consistent, safe, and timely service.

About Denali National Park & Preserve and Doyon/Aramark Joint Venture:
Summer days in Alaska stretch nearly endlessly, with up to 20 hours of daylight on the Summer Solstice. Spanning 6.2 million acres, Denali National Park & Preserve is home to Denali, the highest peak in North America, and attracts over half a million visitors annually. Conveniently accessible by road—4.5 hours from Anchorage and 2 hours from Fairbanks. Doyon Limited and Aramark have teamed up in a Joint Venture as the Denali National Park & Preserve's Concessionaire. Open May to September, our operation manages the transportation, retail, guest service and food and beverage concessions with our client; The National Park Service. By road, our 100 Blue Bird Bus Fleet takes guests past the 15-mile public access point daily during summer months, allowing people to hike, view wildlife, climb, and camp where few people have set foot.

Job Responsibilities

1. Must complete a daily vehicle inspection form prior to driving.
2. Works with the Recycle workers to move Recycled items (Plastic, Cardboard, Trash, Glass, Aluminum, Straps) from park disposal locations and brings to Recycling shed for proper disposal.
3. May be asked to assist in the sorting of recycled materials.
4. Ensure a pleasant and clean atmosphere is always maintained in the vehicle.
5. Utilize all safety equipment available, always wear a seat belt when driving.
6. Operate semi-tractor, 2 ton truck and 1 ton truck transporting supplies and equipment to and from designated locations or towing large vessels out of the lake.
7. Drivers are required to drive defensively, safely, and cautiously always and in all situations.
8. Exceptional customer service skills are needed when encountering guests; to ensure a good positive representation of Aramark and Denali National Park.
9. Fuel, clean and inspect vehicle when required, report malfunctions to Transportation Office.
10. Drivers must ensure all vehicle log books are completed including rider-ship information log.
11. Work with Transportation Office dispatcher ensuring any special requests and group requests are completed.
12. Drivers may be required to serve as warehouse drivers transporting and delivering equipment and other supplies.
13. May be required to assist with clerical work, answering phones, working as a dispatcher and other office duties.
14. Drivers must be aware of SDS sheets and books and read and use this information when necessary.
15. Identify maintenance and safety issues and take the correct steps to correct them.
16. Maintain a positive attitude always be willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed.
17. Attend all scheduled department and safety meetings.
18. Know and comply with all company policies and procedures regarding safety, security, emergencies and energy.
19. Report to work on time and in complete uniform.
20. Other duties as assigned.
21. Employee is responsible for knowing the environmental aspects and associated impacts of their job position. Job specific Environmental aspects and impacts will be communicated by dept. managers during EMS training.

Qualifications

1. One year (non-consecutive) experience as a CDL driver required.
2. Must be age 23 years or older.
3. Must be able to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
4. Must have a valid Commercial Driver License (Class A) ideally with passenger endorsement and a clean driving record showing 5 years of prior safe driving.
5. Must pass a DOT physical examination and obtain a medical card.
6. Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test and participate in the random drug/alcohol testing pool.
7. Must complete and pass Defensive Driving Course prior to driving a company vehicle 1 year + professional driving experience.

Equipment Used: Semi Tractor, Walkie-Talkie, Hand Truck, Computer, Photocopier, Propane Tanks, 1 or 2 Ton Truck, Passenger Bus/Shuttle, Printer, Telephone, Other Equipment.

Travel Requirements: Little or no travel required (less than 10%).

Lifting Requirements: HEAVY - Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 pounds.
