Clean Harbors in Devens, MA is seeking a Waste Material Handler (Insite Chemist) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste in accordance with Federal/State/Local regulations and our company policies and procedures. This position works both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, customer sites, and involves assisting with lab packs within customer facilities, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, and lab moves. It is a customer-facing role, working at customer sites daily. The Environmental Field Chemist position is NOT laboratory-based.

Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring health and safety compliance by following all safe work practices and policies
- Preparing packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications
- Inspecting staging, storage areas, and drums for leaks, spills, and compliance with labeling regulations
- Collecting, segregating, and packaging waste chemicals for disposal efficiently and in compliance
- Executing jobs at customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies
- Final preparation and approval of projects before shipment, in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies
- Conducting projects in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and safety plans
- Understanding customer-specific disposal restrictions and packaging requirements
- Sampling and profiling new or analytically tested waste streams
- Ensuring drums are shippable and conditions meet company policies
- Following all local, state, and federal regulations
- Operating vehicles safely per DOT and local requirements
- Observing all company environmental, health, safety, and operational guidelines
- Performing other duties as assigned
Minimum requirements:
- Valid Driver's license
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to obtain a CDL Class B with hazmat and tanker endorsements within 6 months
- Ability to perform physical functions as required
- Successful completion of background check, drug test, and physical exam
- Compliance with OSHA's facial hair standards if respirators are required
Preferred qualifications:
- College degree in Chemistry or Natural Science
- Previous experience in environmental services such as remediation, abatement, or spill response
