Job summary

The City of Abilene is seeking a capable Equipment Operator I/II to perform skilled work operating solid waste collection trucks and related equipment on assigned routes. Work under the supervision of the Supervisor – Solid Waste, and contribute to safe, timely collection and disposal.

Responsibilities include routine inspections, basic maintenance, reading maps, and following safety rules. A valid Texas CDL is required; high school diploma or GED preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Texas Class A or B CDL required.
• Prior experience operating large commercial waste equipment preferred.
• Read maps and route sheets; maintain route records.

Responsibilities

• Operate solid waste collection trucks and related equipment.
• Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance.
• Complete routes with minimal incidents and ensure safe operation.
• Report unsafe conditions and equipment issues to supervisor.
