Position Summary

The Warranty Technician, reporting to the Warranty Manager, is responsible for the timely receipt, documentation, inspection, and technical evaluation of engines and related components returned for warranty consideration. The role conducts objective, comprehensive inspections to identify failure modes and determine probable root causes, documenting clear and technically supported findings. These findings provide the Warranty team with the accurate information needed to make informed warranty claim decisions. The Warranty Technician remains impartial throughout the evaluation process, focusing on determining and documenting what failed and why, rather than advocating for the approval or denial of a claim. The Warranty Technician is expected to remain flexible as departmental needs evolve and may be asked to take on additional responsibilities or assist the Warranty team with other duties as needed.

Essential Responsibilities
Engine & Component Receiving
  • Receive engines, components, and other warranty-related materials returned to PSI for inspection.
  • Verify the items received against the applicable warranty claim and documentation.
  • Enter received engines and components into the MIZE warranty system.
  • Document discrepancies, missing components, or other issues identified during the receiving process.
  • Ensure warranty returns are properly identified, organized, and maintained throughout the inspection process.
Warranty Claim Review
  • Review all available information associated with the warranty claim prior to beginning an inspection.
  • Review claim documentation, technician comments, photographs, diagnostic information, and other supporting evidence.
  • Review available ST tickets and technical support history when applicable.
  • Develop an understanding of the reported failure and diagnostic steps already performed before beginning the physical inspection.
  • Identify additional information or documentation that may be required to complete the investigation.
Technical Inspection & Failure Analysis
  • Perform comprehensive inspections of engines and related components to determine the failure mode and probable root cause.
  • Disassemble engines and components as necessary to identify internal damage and failure conditions.
  • Inspect mechanical, electrical, fuel, lubrication, cooling, and related engine systems.
  • Identify evidence of component failure, improper installation, maintenance-related issues, customer-induced damage, normal wear, improper application, or other conditions that may have contributed to the failure.
  • Take accurate measurements and compare findings against applicable PSI specifications and service information.
  • Document inspection findings with detailed notes, measurements, photographs, and other supporting evidence.
  • Identify additional testing or analysis required when the root cause cannot be conclusively determined.
  • Escalate unusual, complex, or potentially systemic failures to the Warranty Manager and appropriate technical departments (Engineering, Quality, CSE, or Service).
Warranty KPI Responsibilities
  • Complete inspections and provide documented findings to the Warranty team within the Department's established 30-day inspection KPI.
  • Maintain accurate and timely updates to the engine and part KPI trackers.
  • Communicate potential delays or issues that may prevent an inspection from being completed within the required timeframe.
  • Help ensure warranty returns do not remain uninspected or unresolved due to incomplete internal processing.
Technical Reporting
  • Provide clear, concise, and factual inspection reports to the Warranty team.
  • Clearly identify:
    • Reported failure
    • Inspection findings
    • Failed component(s)
    • Evidence of failure

    • Contributing factors, when applicable
    • Ensure conclusions are supported by physical evidence and documented inspection findings.
