Job description

Job Title: Warranty Engineer

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Quality Manager

FLSA status: Exempt

SUMMARY

This position will review and conduct root cause analysis of OEM warranty returned parts and analyze data to identify trends. This position also identifies corrective actions and works with various internal departments to document and track progress for issue solution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyze all OEM warranty returned parts using problem solving methodologies.
  • Process disposition of returns in customer systems.
  • Conduct and monitor testing of defective parts.
  • Analyze data to identify trends.
  • Document emerging issues and propose corrective and preventative actions.
  • Monitor progress of all open warranty corrective actions.
  • Create tracking and trending metrics for warranty returns.
  • Maintain process flow and other documentation as required by customer and internal standards.
  • Provide support in development of customer service bulletins.
  • May include dealership or customer plant visits and dealership call log maintenance.
  • May travel 5-10% to customer sites for parts evaluation.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public effectively.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Perform work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS

High level of ability working in Microsoft Office Suite – particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Preferred knowledge of Ubiquiti, Covisint, and specific customer systems: BMW: b2b, Chrysler: PRAS, WIS/EWT, e-CIMS, SPX, Ford: WPRC, BASQ, AWS, GWC, GM: GART, PRTS, Nissan: Plex.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Regularly required to walk and to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and to talk and hear. Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Works in an office environment. Occasionally works in the manufacturing area around moving mechanical equipment and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level is usually moderate.
