Job summary

Massachusetts Probation Service seeks a Chief Probation Officer for the Warrant Apprehension Unit to provide senior leadership and strategic direction for statewide warrant enforcement operations. The role oversees warrant teams, coordinates with courts and law enforcement, and ensures adherence to laws and agency policies.

The position requires strong management experience, the ability to supervise diverse teams, and regular reporting on operational metrics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the CHEA.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in the probation service as an Assistant Chief Probation Officer or equivalent/higher position.
• Graduate degree in behavioral sciences, education, administration, management, or criminal justice is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee a warrant apprehension unit, including supervising Assistant Chiefs, Supervisors, Probation Officers, and specialized field staff.
• Coordinate warrant management and apprehension functions with the WAU CPO and MTOC.
• Plan, execute, and evaluate warrant operations, including high risk field activity.
• Prioritize warrant caseloads and ensure timely, accurate case review and field deployment.
• Ensure operations adhere to safety protocols, policies, and laws.
• Collaborate with courts, law enforcement, and community partners to coordinate warrant activities.
