Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Program Director and consistent with the Gaston County Family YMCA Christian Mission, the Transportation staff, Commercial Driver’s License Driver, will be responsible for the safety of all participants in their care in a YMCA vehicle.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Driver

  • Ensure the safety of all children in your care.
  • Set a positive example and be a role model for children.
  • Attend all required training sessions.
  • Report participant absences to your supervisor.
  • Provide safe transportation to and from scheduled destinations.
  • Report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle at all times.
  • Follow established routes without deviation.
  • Assist children entering and exiting the vehicle to ensure safety.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and procedures.
  • Conduct daily or weekly vehicle walk-arounds and document them.
  • Assist in maintaining the building, grounds, and equipment as needed.
  • Follow all program guidelines, training, and emergency procedures.
  • Handle children with care, avoiding force and ensuring group control.
  • Follow all Staff Code of Conduct rules.
  • Understand and promote the YMCA mission.
  • Maintain professionalism and avoid inappropriate behavior.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must lift or assist children up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Position may require bending, kneeling, and walking.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to emergencies.

Qualifications

  • At least 21 years old.
  • Valid NC Driver’s License with no restrictions.
  • Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger endorsement.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Bus driving experience of 6 months or more preferred.
