Seeking a Full-time Principal Warfare Systems Engineer to support the Future Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG(X)) program in Washington, DC.
This role involves serving as a Warfare Systems GFI and GFE subject matter expert, supporting the DDG(X) Program with integration of combat systems, navigation, and C4I systems.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Warfare Systems GFE/GFI technical engineering support for the government client, supporting development & configuration management of ICAs, ICDs, and ship integration changes for DDG(X). Coordinate with NAVSEA 05, PMS 460, PEO IWS, PEO C4I, shipbuilders, and GFE suppliers.
- Maintain and update DGM-026 – ICDs, and develop additional guidance or strategies as needed, in coordination with cross-functional teams.
- Develop schedules and track progress of studies & development programs to support ICD and ICA updates.
- Prepare and manage Warfare Systems inputs to the Risks & Opportunities Management Board.
- Assess risks & opportunities of concurrent development projects.
- Assess Technical and Integration Readiness Levels of warfare systems.
- Coordinate ship integration changes with NAVSEA 05, PMS 460, PEO GEM, NSWCs, and partner shipyards.
- Leverage experience with the AEGIS Combat System to inform design decisions.
- Contribute to Topside and General Arrangements drawings and ICDs.
- Coordinate integration of combat systems, C4I, and navigation with relevant offices and stakeholders.
- Develop products for Warfare Systems IPT, lead technical reviews, and participate in engineering meetings following systems engineering processes.
- Provide technical feedback, products, and recommendations to clients.
- Interact with clients and subcontractors for deliverables and integration assessments.
- Lead and participate in engineering and system working groups, resolving system issues.
- Collaborate with ship design teams to refine Warfare Systems specifications.
- Review Interface Requirement Specifications.
- Support surface warfare operational analysis and engineering design.
- Analyze ship Warfare/Combat Systems self-defense capabilities and vulnerabilities.
- Develop Concepts of Employment and Operations.
- Support critical tasks analysis for watch positions.
- Review and support topside antenna, weapon, camera, and lighting integration.
- Review and support training system design and development.

Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience with US Navy operational and Warfare Systems, including ship design, systems integration, maintenance, and modernization.
- U.S. Citizenship and Active Secret Security Clearance.
- Deep understanding of US Navy system architecture and combat systems.
- Operational knowledge of Navy combatants, weapon systems, and threats.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation and presentations.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Qualifications:
- B.S. or higher in engineering or related field preferred.
- Understanding of weapons, sensors, and C2 systems.
- Experience with Navy vessel operation, training, and readiness.
- 20+ years of progressive Navy Warfare Systems experience, including ship design and systems integration.
