Job summary

GE Appliances, a Haier company, in Decatur, AL, is hiring a Warehouse Yard Dog Operator. This role involves safely moving finished units by forklift, loading trailers, and transferring units with a yard dog and Track-mobile.

You will work with operations to meet tight deadlines, rotate among warehouse tasks, and maintain safety and efficiency in a high-volume plant environment.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years forklift/yard dog experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • CDL license preferred or equivalent yard dog experience.
  • Attention to detail; able to work independently.
  • Able to operate around moving machinery (robots, forklifts, etc.).
  • Able to work weekends or extended hours as needed.
  • Must be able to obtain Fork Truck & Yard Dog certifications/licenses.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without restriction; read/write English.
  • Able to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs and occasional 50 lbs.
  • Access to trailers, railcars, machinery and plant areas.

  • Operate yard dog to move trailers and dock into place.
  • Use a scanner to transfer units from storage to shipment.
  • Operate Track-mobile to move railcars for loading and unloading.
  • Collaborate with operations to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Load product for shipment without damage.
  • Rotate among department tasks and understand warehouse processes.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow safety policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Our Warehouse Yard Dog Operators support appliance manufacturing operations by either transferring finished units to storage locations or loading finished units onto railcars or trailers to ship to our customers or distribution centers. This is an essential role in our manufacturing assembly plant involving moving material from receiving to the production areas.

What You’ll Create Possibilities Safely
  • Safely Operate and utilize a forklift to move product using a Basiloid attachment.
  • Safely operate yard dog to move trailers and place into the docks.
  • Utilize a scanner to transfer units from storage to a shipment.
  • Operate a Track-mobile to move railcars for loading, opening, and closing railcar doors and moving railcars outside when completed.
  • Work with operations leaders to prioritize work and meet critical deadlines.
  • Load product for shipment without damage to customers & distribution centers.
  • Ability to rotate among jobs within the department and know all aspects of warehouse processes.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and follow all company policies and practices regarding safety and material handling.
  • All other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring to Our Team
  • One or more years of experience operating a forklift & yard dog with both finished goods transfer & loading, preferably in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • CDL license with truck driving preferred or equivalent yard dog experience.
  • Must have attention to detail and be able to work independently.
  • Must be capable of working around moving machines - robots, machinery, forklifts, etc.
  • Available to work weekends or extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift, yard dog & Track-mobile.
  • You must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • You must be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Must be able to successfully complete physical confirming satisfactory health for job and have the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation, including, but not limited to: Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., with potential heavy lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to access required areas pertaining to job including, but not limited to: trailers, railcars, machinery and other areas of the plant.
  • Must be capable of obtaining & maintaining Fork Truck & Yard Dog certifications/licenses.
  • Exposure to temperature fluctuations of summer & winter as determined by outside conditions.
  • Must wear all required PPE including steel toed shoes & safety glasses.
