Description

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Warehouse Manager and/or Dock Lead, assist in loading contributed goods onto and off the trucks and attended donation stations. Major duties include securing items to prevent damage, assisting driver, assisting in the processing of textile and hard goods products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

  1. Assist in loading contributed goods onto the truck using correct and proper lifting procedures.
  2. Assist in loading and unloading store merchandise orders or return items as designated by the Warehouse Manager and/or Dock Lead.
  3. Assist forklift and warehouse workers in loading or unloading all trucks and placing articles in designated areas.
  4. Secure articles with ropes and padding to prevent damage as required.
  5. Responsible for loading empty barrels, hand trucks or other equipment that is necessary for each trip.
  6. Pack and stack goods with care, when loading and unloading, to prevent damage.
  7. Assist in processing textile and hard good products.
  8. Present proper image of Goodwill Industries to the public.
  9. Maintain appropriate dress code including name badge.
  10. Willing to become forklift certified.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

  1. Assist in baling salvage textile in the manual or automated baler.
  2. Operating compactor.
  3. Observe and follow all safety and security procedures.
  4. Evaluating and staging furniture.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the Warehouse and/or Dock Lead.

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES

  2. Ability to respond to and handle assignments and instructions given by supervisor.
  3. Ability to lift and carry heavy items such as furniture, with assistance.

Education and/or Experience: No prior experience is required.

Math Ability:

Level 1: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Computer Skills: No computer skills are required for this position.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Purchasing Authority: No Purchasing Authority.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  1. Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  2. Vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  3. Standing and sitting for long periods.
  4. Perform work outside and inside; exposure to weather conditions, dust, dirt, electricity, noise, fumes and chemicals.
  5. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Language Ability:

Level 1: Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Reasoning Ability:

Level 1: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
