Job summary

Bunzl plc is seeking a Transportation Clerk to support the transportation department with administrative tasks, freight claims, and DOT/FMCSR compliance. The role includes coordinating routes, negotiating freight rates, and assisting in warehouse duties as needed.

The shift runs 7am-3:30pm with a pay rate of $23/hour. Strong communication, Excel/Word proficiency, and familiarity with AS400/iSeries are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Detailed knowledge of local, state and federal DOT/FMCSR rules required.
• Minimum 2 years of transportation admin/clerk experience, preferably in warehousing.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant communication with drivers to ensure on-time deliveries and customer satisfaction.
• Coordinate daily routes based on customer needs.
• Review LTL and UPS costs daily for cost effectiveness.
• File freight claims with the carrier.
• Negotiate freight rates using AS400/iSeries for better service and cost control.
• Review driver logs and DOT compliance reports.

Job description

The Transportation Clerk will provide administrative support to the transportation department including filing freight claims, reviewing DOT logs for compliance, negotiating freight rates and assisting in the warehouse as needed.

7am-3:30pm Shift | $23/hour

Responsibilities:

• Constant communication with driversto ensure on time deliveries/pick-ups and customer satisfaction
• Coordinate the routes daily based on customer needs
• Review LTL and UPS costs daily for cost effectiveness based on customer needs
• Filefreight claimswith the applicable carrier
• Using the AS400,negotiate freight rates for better service and cost effectiveness
• Review driver logs, hours of service, trip reports, driver reports, etc. for DOT/FMCSR compliance
• Assist with warehouse responsibilities as required

Requirements:

• High School/GED education required
• Detailed knowledge of local, state and federal DOT/FMCSR rules required
• Minimum of 2 years of transportation administration/clerk experience required, preferably in a warehouse/distribution environment
• Ability to perform clerical and administrative duties with speed and accuracy under limited supervision
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• AS400/iSeries experience preferred, particularly inventory/receiving functions
• Self-starter with the ability to multi-task projects
• Ability to answer a heavy volume of phone calls from both internal and external customers
• Must be a detail-orientated problem solver
• Experience with an Automatic On-Board Recording Device preferred (AOBRDS such as XATA and OmniTRACS)
