Darwin Recruitment is assisting a maritime logistics and terminal operator in their search for a Warehouse Team Leader.

The role oversees daily warehouse operations at a busy marine terminal, supervising foremen, forklift operators, clerks and laborers to ensure safe, accurate and efficient handling of breakbulk and project cargo across vessel, rail, truck and warehouse movements, with a strong focus on safety, productivity and customer service.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of warehouse, logistics, terminal operations, or distribution center experience, including supervisory duties.
  • Experience handling breakbulk, project cargo, steel products, or heavy industrial materials preferred.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience using WMS, inventory management software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control, cargo staging, shipping and receiving.
  • Leadership, communication, problem solving, and decision making in fast paced environments.
  • Lean warehousing knowledge and productivity measurement preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain TWIC.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and assign daily work activities to maximize labor, equipment availability, and efficiency.

  • Monitor productivity, inventory accuracy, and cargo movement to meet deadlines.
  • Use WMS to manage inventory transactions and track cargo movements.
  • Identify and resolve operational challenges; communicate updates with teams.
  • Coach, train, and mentor employees to improve performance and safety.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and special projects.

Job description

Darwin is assisting a maritime logistics and terminal operator with their search for a Warehouse Team Leader.

The Warehouse Team Leader is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse operations within a busy marine terminal, ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of breakbulk and project cargo moving through vessel, rail, truck, and warehouse operations. This hands-on leadership role supervises warehouse personnel, coordinates daily workflows, manages inventory activities, and supports cargo movement while maintaining high standards of safety, productivity, and customer service. The ideal candidate has experience leading warehouse teams in an industrial or port environment and possesses strong knowledge of inventory management, cargo handling, and warehouse management systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and supervise warehouse personnel, including foremen, forklift operators, clerks, and general laborers, to ensure safe and efficient daily operations.
  • Coordinate the receiving, storage, staging, inventory control, and shipping of breakbulk, project cargo, and other industrial materials.
  • Plan and assign daily work activities to maximize labor utilization, equipment availability, and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, reinforce safe work practices, and ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and terminal operating procedures.
  • Monitor warehouse productivity, inventory accuracy, and cargo movement while ensuring customer deadlines and service expectations are met.
  • Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to manage inventory transactions, track cargo movements, and maintain accurate operational records.
  • Apply inventory control principles, including FIFO, LIFO, cycle counts, and inventory reconciliation, to maintain accurate stock levels.
  • Identify operational challenges, resolve shift-level issues, and communicate workflow updates with terminal operations, transportation, maintenance, and customer service teams.
  • Coach, train, and mentor employees to improve performance, operational knowledge, and workplace safety while fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), identifying process improvements, and assisting with special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of warehouse, logistics, terminal operations, or distribution center experience, including previous supervisory or team leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience handling breakbulk cargo, project cargo, steel products, or heavy industrial materials is strongly preferred.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), inventory management software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control practices, cargo staging, shipping, receiving, and material handling.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Working knowledge of Lean warehousing, continuous improvement methodologies, and productivity measurement is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts to support terminal operations.
