TITLE: Warehouse Supervisor I

POSITION OBJECTIVE: This position is responsible for the manual and clerical duties relating to shipping receiving, and warehouse inventory supplies. The incumbent supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in shipping, receiving, container unloading, stocking of inventory, picking of orders, required labeling, and cycle counts of inventory. The order schedule is received from customer service daily and orders are scheduled with freight companies (LTL carriers or parcel couriers, UPS) for pickup. The incumbent and/or warehouse inventory staff, prepare appropriate paperwork, load the trailers, and follow up after orders have shipped.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of warehouse operations experience, including at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and warehouse safety regulations. Forklift certification preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Orientation and training of new warehouse employees and temporary help as well as contractors who may be working on-site in the warehouse.
  • Ensure that all warehouse employees, including temporary help, adhere to American Sanitation Institute (ASI) housekeeping standards and OSHA and company safety regulations and policies.
  • Ensure that appropriate housekeeping is maintained to safeguard warehouse inventory stock against any loss or damage.
  • Manage the order shipping process to ensure that orders are shipped as required.
  • Delegates and assigns tasks to warehouse shipping and receiving clerks as necessary.
  • Participate in monthly safety committee meetings.
  • Supervise daily warehouse operations, including receiving, storing, and shipping products.
  • Assign work tasks to warehouse associates based on operational needs.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with purchasing/production teams.
  • Inspect incoming shipments for accuracy and condition.
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness and organization.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Train new employees in warehouse procedures and equipment operation.
  • Operate forklift/pallet jacks when necessary to move inventory.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on warehouse performance.
  • Coordinate with carriers to schedule pickups and deliveries.
  • Implement performance indicators (KPIs) for warehouse staff.
  • Resolve employee or operational issues in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other departments for smooth workflow.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain records of equipment maintenance and ensure its availability.
  • Perform cycle counts and assist with physical inventory.
  • Review and approve time sheets for warehouse staff.
  • Ensure proper labeling and storage of hazardous materials.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS SUBJECTED TO IN THIS POSITION:

  • Primarily inside the warehouse, but occasional exposure to outside conditions.
  • May experience extreme heat (above 100 F) or other environmental factors.
  • The role may involve working in areas with potential hazards, such as forklifts or hazardous materials.

TRAINING:

  • On-the-job training for all company-specific warehouse procedures.
  • Safety training, including OSHA compliance.
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Warehouse Management System (WMS) training.
  • Forklift and equipment operation training.

AUTHORITY / DECISION MAKING:

  • Approves daily work assignments and scheduling of warehouse staff.
  • Authorizes inventory adjustments within set limits.
  • Recommends staffing, training, and disciplinary actions to warehouse management.
  • Enforces safety policies and has the authority to halt operations in unsafe conditions.
  • Make decisions on prioritizing shipping and receiving activities.

OTHER INFORMATION:

  • Requirements for the position include knowledge of the basics of shipping, receiving, and inventory control, good organizational skills, ability to drive a forklift, and capability of multitasking. The position should also possess good verbal communication skills and the ability to relate well and work with all levels of the organization including truck drivers, customers, and suppliers.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, ELECTRONIC DEVICES & SOFTWARE:

  • Use handheld barcode scanners for inventory management (basic scanning proficiency required).
  • Operate desktop computers and AS400 system (basic computer literacy and data entry skills required).
  • Operate warehouse management software (AS400/IP System – moderate training required).
  • Utilize Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for reporting and communication.
  • Operate time clock or payroll entry system for staff time management.
