Position Summary

The Warehouse Supervisor is a hands-on, working supervisor responsible for the overall performance of warehouse shift operations, including receiving, storage, inventory control, order fulfillment, and shipping. This role supervises the Warehouse Lead and, through the Lead, the warehouse associate team, translating the Warehouse Manager's priorities into daily labor plans, work assignments, and measurable results. The Supervisor owns shift-level KPIs (inventory accuracy, on-time shipping, order accuracy, productivity, and safety), manages people processes such as scheduling, attendance, performance coaching, and corrective action, and ensures compliance with food safety, GMP, and OSHA requirements. The position partners closely with Production Planning, Purchasing, Order Entry, Quality, and the Inventory Analyst to keep materials and finished goods flowing on schedule. This is not a desk role: the Supervisor spends the majority of each shift on the floor, operating equipment and performing receiving, picking, counting, and loading alongside the team while directing the work. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who develops people, solves problems at the root cause, and drives continuous improvement in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

Core Responsibilities
  • Supervise and actively perform daily warehouse shift activities, including receiving, put-away, storage, cycle counting, order picking, staging, loading, and shipping; work on the floor the majority of each shift, filling in wherever the operation needs coverage.
  • Own the daily ship schedule: ensure every order scheduled for the day ships complete and on time. Proactively identify and resolve shorts with Production Planning and Order Entry before they become missed shipments, and escalatge unavoidable misses to the Warehouse Manager.
  • Maintain the shipping, shortage, and pick-planning spreadsheets used to manage daily warehouse activity.
  • Notify Purchasing by email of shorts, damages, and quality issues on inbound receipts.
  • Sign off on all material transfers picked for the pre-weigh team before they are pushed to pre-weigh.
  • Issue count sheets for cycle counts; review results and direct Warehouse Lead recounts as needed.
  • Perform and document daily trailer temperature checks; elevate out-of-range readings to Quality.
  • Directly supervise, coach, and develop the Warehouse Lead; provide guidance and support to associates through the Lead and serve as the next level of escalation for operational and personnel issues.
  • Build daily and weekly labor plans and work assignments aligned to the production schedule, inbound receipts, and customer ship dates; adjust staffing to meet changing priorities.
  • Manage team scheduling, timekeeping approval, attendance, overtime, and PTO coverage.
  • Conduct performance feedback, coaching, and corrective action in partnership with the Warehouse Manager and Human Resources; participate in interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of warehouse staff.
  • Own and report shift-level KPIs, including inventory accuracy, order accuracy, on-time shipping, dock-to-stock time, productivity, and safety; lead corrective actions when targets are missed.
  • Oversee the cycle count program with the Inventory Analyst; ensure discrepancies are investigated to root cause and resolved promptly.
  • Ensure accurate and timely ERP/WMS transactions for receipts, transfers, consumption, adjustments, and shipments.
  • Enforce FIFO/FEFO rotation, lot traceability, allergen segregation, and proper storage of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods, including refrigerated product.
  • Coordinate with Production Planning, Purchasing, and Order Entry to stage materials for production and resolve shortages, holds, and schedule changes.
  • Coordinate with carriers and customers on inbound and outbound appointments; confirm the Warehouse Lead has completed final load verification, photos, and BOL signature before trailers are released.
  • Ensure compliance with GMPs, food safety and SQF requirements, and support internal and customer audits; partner with Quality on holds, rejections, and nonconforming material.
  • Champion workplace safety: conduct safety walks, ensure powered industrial truck (PIT) training and certifications are current, investigate incidents and near-misses, and implement corrective actions in line with OSHA and Facilities standards.
  • Develop, maintain, and train to warehouse SOPs and work instructions; drive accountability for consistent follow-through across shifts.
  • Maintain warehouse organization, sanitation, and physical condition; coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve flow, space utilization, accuracy, and cost.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local laws; follow company policies and procedures.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate willingness to work overtime as required. Available for evening and weekend hours work schedules if needed to fulfill customer requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of warehouse experience in a fast-paced setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role directly managing leads and/or hourly associates.
  • Experienced forklift and electric pallet jack operator; able to perform every warehouse associate task and to train and certify others.
  • Working knowledge of ERP or WMS inventory transactions and cycle count practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word for reporting, scheduling, and KPI tracking.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage people processes, including scheduling, performance coaching, and corrective action.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA warehouse safety requirements.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills; able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in food, beverage, or other FDA-regulated manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, FSMA, SQF, allergen control, and lot traceability.
  • Experience with cold-chain or refrigerated warehousing.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in supply chain, logistics, business, or a related field.
