SUMMARY

Under general supervision, oversees distribution, delivery and routing of food, supplies and materials; maintains distribution activities for the District, including food and supplies for the Child Nutrition Programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Hand selects product according to site orders in various temperatures, including warehouse and refrigerated environments within the Nutrition Center central kitchen facility.
  • Stacks product on distribution dollies in accordance with proper selecting procedures.
  • Works independently, ensuring that all safety rules, regulations and policies are observed.
  • Distributes frozen, refrigerated and dry goods according to food safety standards and established distribution guidelines.
  • Inspects and verifies accuracy and condition of all materials received against appropriate paperwork.
  • Utilizes basic inventory control procedures to manage warehouse supplies.
  • Strategically stages verified distributed items into the correct routing areas.
  • Operates powered pallet jack, moving material according to distribution sheets.
  • Maintains tidiness and cleanliness in the distribution area.
  • Monitors work site to assure adherence to safety rules and regulations.
  • May travel to school district facilities to deliver, pickup and resolve materials orders.
  • Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed.
  • Recognizes, avoids, and reports distribution issues, unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND one (1) year of warehouse or shipping and receiving experience, preferably in a commercial food service setting; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Medical Examination:

Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

Knowledge of:
  • Basic shipping, receiving, and distribution practices and procedures.
  • Distribution operations and procedures.
  • Safety and sanitation practices and methods for food preparation, distribution and storage.
  • FIFO procedures for food storage and selection.
  • Principles of record keeping and records management.
  • Personal sanitation and hygiene regulations.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Skill in:
  • Operating and maintaining electric pallet jack in a safe and effective manner.
  • Performing mathematical computations.
  • Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with co-workers and clients.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota State Driver’s License.

Must acquire and maintain in good standing a Serve Safe certification within sixty (60) days of date of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed indoors and outdoors at MPS facilities; requires constant physical efforts; may be exposed to safety hazards; safety precautions must be followed including use of safety equipment; the job may require walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and the ability to frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
