Job summary

A. M. Castle & Co. seeks a Warehouse Operator to perform a variety of material handling tasks, order pulling, and equipment operation in a fast-paced distribution setting. The role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and adherence to customer requirements.

Expect to operate cranes and powered equipment, move materials, and stage shipments while contributing to a clean, efficient warehouse environment. This position starts at $21/hr with a raise after a 90-day probation to $25.88/hr.

Responsibilities

• Operate cranes to load and unload trucks efficiently.

• Follow customer requirements to select, fill and package orders.
• Attach bundle tags and stage for shipment.
• Report equipment defects and wear; assist with basic maintenance.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Description

The Warehouse Operator performs a variety of responsibilities in the warehouse including pulling/checking customer orders, moving materials, loading/unloading shipments, and general material handling. Operates necessary equipment to store and move products throughout the warehouse.

Monday - Thursday 6am - 4pm

Compensation

$21/hr to start, after 90-day probationary period pay increases to $25.88/hr

Primary Responsibilities

• Operate cranes to load and unload trucks in an efficient manner.
• Performs a variety of material movement tasks for order filling, receiving, and loading.
• Safely uses assigned power equipment to move material and meet order requirements (crown truck, Raymond side-loader, overhead crane, fork lift, etc.).
• Follows customer requirements to select, fill and package orders.
• Attaches bundle tag to material being shipped and stages for shipment.
• Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
• Works under immediate supervision.
• Notices and reports defects and/or excessive wear and tear of equipment; May perform set-up and preventative maintenance of equipment.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

• Stooping, standing, and manual dexterity
• Light lifting (occasional 25 lbs or less)
• Heavy lifting (frequent 25 lbs+)
• Assigned safety equipment must be worn at all times (hard hat, safety shoes with metatarsal, safety glasses with side shields, gloves, arm guards)
• Frequent exposure to mechanical moving parts

Minimum Qualifications

• Basic measurement competency
• Basic math competency
• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a warehouse environment
• Strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• One year of work experience
• One year of equipment experience
• PC literacy
• Certified in assigned equipment (forklift, Raymond side-loader, overhead crane, etc.)
