Job summary

Zekelman Industries in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Warehouse Associate to ensure efficient handling and shipment of steel tube and pipe products. The role suits someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to safety and accuracy.

You will load, unload, pick, pack, and stage orders, operate forklifts and related equipment, inspect incoming materials, and help optimize shipping procedures.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of warehouse experience in steel or tubing (preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training is a plus.
  • Basic math skills – Capable of accurately processing orders, including handling fractions and decimals.
  • Strong communication skills – Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide updates as necessary.
  • Problem-solving ability – Proactively addresses challenges in the warehouse to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Attention to detail – Ensures order accuracy and adherence to quality standards in all tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Champions and enforces safe work practices – Adheres to company policies and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Prepares materials, products, and equipment for distribution and shipment – Ensures proper handling and packaging of materials to maintain product quality and prepare for delivery.
  • Processes and fulfills orders – Works closely with internal teams and customers to fulfill orders accurately and timely.
  • Picks, packs, and stages orders – Verifies order accuracy using scanning tools to ensure correct quantities and specifications are met.
  • Loads shipments onto flatbed trucks or LTL carriers – Ensures that all shipments are loaded safely and securely to avoid damage during transit.
  • Receives, inspects, and processes incoming materials – Inspects incoming shipments for damages and ensures they meet company quality standards.
  • Replenishes warehouse stock – Rotates inventory and utilizes equipment such as forklifts or reach trucks to replenish stock as needed.
  • Operates warehouse equipment efficiently – Uses forklifts, order pickers, reach trucks, and pallet jacks to move materials within the warehouse.
  • Standardizes and optimizes shipping and receiving procedures – Works on improving shipping and receiving processes for better accuracy and efficiency.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned – Willingness to take on extra tasks to ensure smooth warehouse operations.

Who You Are

Physical Abilities

Must be able to lift and move materials weighing up to 60 lbs. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and move materials for extended periods. Capability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, order pickers, and pallet jacks in a safe and efficient manner. Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance is required.

Below is the expected base salary range for this position. This is a good‑faith estimate, and offers will be determined based on experience, education, skill set, and interview performance. Base Salary Range: $24 Hourly Plus Production Incentive
