Job summary

AMPI is seeking a seasoned professional to lead production planning and warehouse operations across its Midwest plants in Blair, Wisconsin. You will own the Master Production Schedule, coordinate raw materials, optimize inventory and floor space, and drive efficiency in a fast-paced dairy environment.

The role requires strong leadership, ERP experience (JDE/Oracle), and a track record in shipping, receiving and inventory control. Prior dairy/food production exposure is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or related field preferred.
• Five years’ experience in dairy or food production, manufacturing, industrial process operations or equivalent.
• Three years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience with ERP systems (JDE or Oracle preferred).
• Working knowledge of shipping, receiving and inventory control is required.
• Knowledge of SQF, HACCP, GMPs, OSHA and loss control programs is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all warehouse operations, optimizing capacity, inventory, and floor utilization within budget controls.
• Develop and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS) for assigned value streams.
• Plan raw materials, WIP and finished goods to support pull systems.
• Audit equipment, processes and procedures for effectiveness and efficiency; establish accountability and take corrective action as needed.
• Monitor and improve schedule adherence and plan attainment.
• Identify material risks, shortages, supplier constraints and coordinate resolution.
• Monitor, verify, and coordinate 3rd party warehousing as required.
• Maintain relationships with customers, vendors, and transportation entities.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

AMPI owns six Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation’s American-type cheese and processed cheese is produced. The cooperative’s award-winning cheese and powdered dairy products are marketed to foodservice, retail and food ingredient customers. In 2019, the co‑op launched its Dinner Bell Creamery brand and accompanying Co‑op Crafted promise, highlighting more than 50 years of dairy farm families partnering with skilled cheesemakers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time:

1. All AMPI employees have an obligation to report employee safety, food safety and food quality issues to personnel of authority.
2. Direct and manage all warehouse operations, optimizing warehouse capacity, inventory, and floor utilization to increase department productivity, operating within budget controls.
3. Develop and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS) for assigned value streams, while supporting production to maximize output and changeover efficiency.
4. Plan raw materials, WIP and finished goods to support pull systems.
5. Audit equipment, processes and procedures for effectiveness and efficiency. Establish accountability and take corrective action when necessary.
6. Monitor and improve schedule adherence and plan attainment.
7. Identify material risks, shortages, supplier constraints and coordinate resolution.
8. Monitor, verify, and coordinate 3rd party warehousing as required.
9. Improve planning accuracy, stability and visibility through standard work and metrics.
10. Manage effective employee relations.
11. Manage metrics associated with both on and off-site operations which include direct labor costs, shipment errors on product shortages and damaged product.
12. Maintain relationships with customer, vendors, transportation entities and corporate personnel. resolve customer complaints.
13. Manage safety, loss control, food safety and quality systems.
14. Lead the development, planning and implementation of systems ensuring proficient methods of transportation of ingredients, packaging, and finished product to and from the facility.
15. Effectively communicate policy and procedure changes, operational updates, safety and quality concerns. Provide feedback on department goals.
16. Lead investigations, analyze for root cause, promptly report, and recommend corrective action.
17. Maintain inventories in JDE system. Monitor usage. Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
18. Proactively escalate risks with clear options, trade offs and recommendations.
19. Manage physical inventory counts.
20. Responsible for off duty emergency calls that cannot be resolved within the department.
21. Build and maintain strong working relationships with brand owner leadership teams to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
22. Build a partnership with brand owner leadership teams, ensuring best-in‑class safety, quality, service, and cost performance.
23. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), required
• Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, or related field preferred.
• Five years’ experience in dairy or food production, manufacturing, industrial process operations or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Three years of supervisory experience, preferred.
• Experience with ERP systems. JDE or Oracle preferred.
• Working knowledge of shipping, receiving and inventory control required.
• Knowledge of SQF, HACCP, GMP's, OSHA and loss control programs is highly desirable.
• Prior experience installing and maintaining warehouse inventory management system.
