Role Summary:
As the Warehouse Lead, you will play a crucial role in overseeing two warehouse operations in the Detroit area.You will manage daily activities at both primary warehouse locations, ensuring smooth and efficient food rescue and redistribution processes. This includes coordinating with a dedicated team of warehouse associates and volunteers to manage the flow of incoming and outgoing food donations. Additionally, your role will involve supporting one offsite location to enhance the overall logistics and effectiveness of our food recovery efforts across the Detroit region.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Help oversee daily warehouse operations, ensuring compliance with safety, cleanliness, and sanitation protocols.
- Monitor and manage inventory, track food donations, and maintain accurate records using appropriate systems.
- Coordinate vehicle logistics for food pickups and deliveries, including scheduling and route planning.
- Ensure timely and efficient loading and unloading of trucks upon arrival and departure.
- Assist in developing and following best practices for warehouse efficiency and compost waste handling.
- Collaborate with warehouse associates and volunteers to streamline workflows and maximize productivity.
- Inspect incoming produce to ensure adherence to food safety and quality standards.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized warehouse environment on a daily basis.
- Perform physical warehouse tasks, including moving and building produce pallets for distribution.
- Support composting operations by ensuring daily availability of compost bins and assisting with compost bin waste disposal.
- Organize and rotate inventory using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new warehouse associates and volunteers.
- Visit and assist at a secondary warehouse location weekly (e.g., moving pallets, organizing inventory, facility upkeep).
- Provide operational support during weekly visits to the Sharehouse Location.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in warehouse operations or logistics strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with food safety handling practices and regulations.
- Effective team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable with fast-paced, physical work.
- Experience operating pallet jacks; rider jack experience required.
- Forklift certification is a plus (or ability to become certified).
- Must have reliable transportation to the Detroit warehouse (location not accessible via public transit).
Physical Requirements:
- Able to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Comfortable with repetitive physical movements such as bending, lifting, and reaching.
- Comfortable working in cooler temperature-controlled environments.
- Daily use of rider jack required.
- Must be able to obtain forklift certification.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Starting wage: $22/hour (commensurate with experience).

Work Schedule:
- Tuesday to Friday, 9:00am-2:00pm.
- Occasional flexibility required for early mornings or later evenings as needed.
