Warehouse & Distribution Assistant Manager

Job Title: Warehouse & Distribution Assistant Manager

Work Location: Malaysia

The Purpose of Role:

You are responsible for warehouse and distribution operational activities to deliver high customer service levels at optimum cost. The role will work closely with all functions of the business and build solid partnerships with Third-Party Logistics providers to deliver end-to-end efficiencies, savings, and growth ambitions.

Reporting to: Customer Experience & Logistic Lead - MYSG

Your Role/Key Responsibilities:

  1. Warehouse and Distributions:
  2. Drive logistics capabilities and operational efficiency to deliver savings and improve warehousing and transport service levels, including loss reduction.
  3. Assess business readiness for upcoming changes, identify gaps, and develop and implement action plans.
  4. Provide field support during transportation, goods acceptance, refusals, and returns.

Inventory Management:

  1. Lead bi-annual stock counts in the warehouse.
  2. Manage daily inventory operations in coordination with regional inventory and risk teams.
  3. Propose write-offs and adjust stock via cycle counts.
  4. Participate in regional governance calls and take necessary actions.

Project Management and Continuous Improvement:

  1. Enhance warehouse and distribution capabilities through process improvements, standardization, innovation, and digitalization.
  2. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to maximize performance, customer satisfaction, value, and profit.
  3. Work on special projects impacting gross margin and costs, coordinating with regional teams.

Savings Projects Management:

  1. Monitor warehouse and distribution spend against forecasts weekly/monthly.
  2. Track and report savings projects, updating the system regularly.
  3. Perform impact calculations and data analytics.

Third-Party Logistics and Vendor Relations:

  1. Negotiate daily with 3PL providers on ad-hoc requirements and participate in vendor evaluations.
  2. Conduct weekly meetings regarding operational and customer issues.
  3. Review service levels monthly (KPIs) and ensure compliance with Unilever standards.

Key Stakeholders:

Internal: Demand & Supply Planning team, Logistics, Customer Development

External: 3PL warehouses, transporters, industry stakeholders

Travel: 20-50% within Malaysia to visit 3PLs.

What You’ll Need To Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Logistics/Transportation.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in logistics, warehousing, or distribution operations.
  • Experience in customer management, 3PL relationships, and project management.
  • Data analysis skills and strong problem-solving abilities.

The Hidden Gem in You:

  • Working knowledge of SAP is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
