We sell to restaurants, nursing homes, hospitals, and schools within a 125-mile radius of Springfield. SUMMARY
The Warehouse Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean working environment for warehouse staff and visitors of M. J. Kellner Foodservice to support the achievement of the Company’s goals and objectives. These duties include cleaning floors, restrooms, and removing debris and spills.

This role also serves as an on-call product runner to support the Sales and Operations teams by delivering product to customers who are in need of an emergency delivery. Both aspects of this role are meant to ensure that our customers continue to receive exceptional service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Performs routine cleaning tasks based on a schedule created by the Vice President of Operations and Building Maintenance Supervisor
• Maintains a clean and safe environment inside of the warehouse offices, which includes:
  • Cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms and restocking disposables
  • Sweeping, mopping, washing, buffing, and vacuuming floors
  • Emptying trash
  • Dusting and vacuuming
  • Cleaning windows
• Maintains a clean and safe environment outside of the buildings, which includes:
  • Sweeping debris
  • Picking up litter
  • Emptying trash
• Maintains a clean and safe environment in both the dry and cold sides of the warehouse, which includes:
  • Moving pallets and sweeping debris from the racks
  • Keeping aisles free of debris
  • Assisting in cleaning up product spills
  • Cleaning warehouse machinery, such as forklifts and refrigeration units
• Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas
• Performs heavy cleaning tasks and special projects as needed
• Notifies Management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repair
• Assists the Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Transportation, Building Maintenance Supervisor, and/or Custodian as necessary
• Drives product to Customers or Sales Consultants who need special deliveries
• Uses assigned tools and equipment, including company vehicles, safely as instructed
• Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates outdoors, in warehouses, and in office settings. In these settings, it is often difficult to regulate temperature, so extreme heat and cold may be experienced. Occasional use of pallet jacks or forklifts is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb; talk or hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must occasionally lift or move food or office products, supplies, and machinery weighing from 10 pounds to 100 pounds.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Typical days of work are Monday through Friday. Typical hours of work are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday. This position sometimes requires long hours and weekend work as needed.

TRAVEL
Daily travel within a 150-mile radius of Springfield, IL is expected for this position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent
Proven experience as custodian, janitor, or in a similar role

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, processes
Experience working in a warehouse environment

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
A valid driver’s license is required.
