Job summary

Openwork is seeking a Warehouse Associate (Second Shift) in Northwest Houston. You will fill orders per pick ticket instructions, verify size, grade, quantity and heat numbers, and move material safely through loading and unloading of trucks.

The role requires knowledge of structural steel, ability to read tickets, and teamwork. Must pass background/drug screen; bilingual in English preferred; overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in steel manufacturing preferred.
• Ability to pass background and drug/alcohol screen.
• Ability to stand, lift and perform physical tasks; lift up to 50 lbs.
• Read and communicate in English; bilingual is required.
• Flexible schedule for overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Fill orders per pick ticket instructions, double checking size, grade, quantity and heat numbers.
• Pull materials for transfers and load/unload trucks; operate forklifts and cranes.
• Cut materials for stock and customers using saws, shear, iron worker and burning table.
• Double check orders and ensure correct materials are pulled.
• Complete paperwork, labels and equipment inspection reports.
• Maintain a safe, clean work area and follow safety protocols.

Openwork is currently engaged in a search to find a Warehouse Associate (Second Shift) in Northwest Houston.

As a Warehouse Associate, you’ll be responsible for:

• Filling orders for customers per pick ticket instructions, double checking size, grade, quantity and heat numbers.
• Must have some general knowledge of structural steel, pipe and plate steel from past experience.
• Must be able to communicate effectively, read and follow all customer special instructions listed on pick tickets.
• Pulling material for transfers.
• Loading and unloading of incoming and outgoing trucks.
• Cutting materials for stock and for customers using saws, shear, iron worker and burning table.
• Double checking orders and ensuring correct materials are pulled for each order.
• Fill out required paperwork, customer labels and equipment inspection reports.
• Operate all equipment in a safe and responsible manner, report safety concerns to your Supervisor and maintain a clean and safe work area.
• Operate forklifts and cranes to move material.
• Display the ability to use basic measuring devices, including tape measure and micrometers.
• Use of PPE as required.

What you’ll need:

• HS diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in a steel manufacturing industry is highly preferred.
• Ability to pass a background and drug/alcohol screen
• Ability to stand, lift, climb and perform various other physical functions
• Must be able to handle, lift and carry steel parts up to 50 lbs.
• Must work well with others and be a team player
• Position requires complete physical agility, mobility and dexterity
• Display the ability to accurately use basic math skills
• Ability to read pick tickets, tape measurers, and other measuring devices.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Bilingual is a required!
• Must have a flexible schedule for overtime as needed!

Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 11:30AM – 8PM, and MUST be willing to work overtime as needed, with little to last-minute notice!

• Training hours: Monday – Friday, 9AM – 6PM (until training is complete)

Pay Rate:

Pay Rate: $17.50/hr.
