As the Warehouse Specialist, your essential role on our team will ensure that the warehouse is an environment conducive to our programs running safely and efficiently as we work together to fight food insecurity in Minneapolis. This position supports all CES programs: Warehouse, Food Market, Lockers, Home Delivery, Meals on Wheels, AniMeals. It requires logistical coordination, communication skills, and a passion for social and environmental impact.
Essential Responsibilities
- Inventory Management: Receive and maintain accurate records of all deliveries, donations, and all incoming & outgoing products; anticipate inventory needs, and coordinate with the Food Program Manager to replenish supplies; participate in annual inventory, ensuring proper labeling and weighing.
- Receiving and Inspection: Receive shipments, verify contents against packing slips or purchase orders, inspect for spoilage or damage, and ensure proper recording and storage according to food safety standards.
- Warehouse Organization: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment, optimizing storage space and efficiency. Use proper storage methods and equipment to prevent damage and ensure accessibility.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to policies and safety regulations. Promote safety awareness among staff and volunteers, enforcing best practices.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform regular upkeep and light maintenance on warehouse equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
- Food Shelf Operations: Manage daily setup, including stocking shelves, coolers, freezers, and produce areas; coordinate weekly produce distribution; work with volunteers and staff on daily tasks.
- Logistical Coordination: Plan and organize food collection, transportation, and distribution, including scheduling pickups and ensuring compliance with safety during handling and transport.
- Quality Assurance: Assess the quality and safety of rescued food, implementing quality control measures.
- Distribution Management: Collaborate with partners and donors to distribute food, coordinating schedules and quantities based on demand.
- Community Engagement: Raise awareness about food waste and rescue; engage with community members, volunteers, and donors.
- Data Tracking and Reporting: Keep accurate records of donations, collections, and distributions using computer applications.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize operations, expand partnerships, and stay informed on best practices in food recovery.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Mainly in a temperature-controlled warehouse environment, including cooler and freezer access.
- Frequent lifting up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 60 pounds.
- Use of warehouse equipment like pallet jacks, carts, ladders.
- Frequent physical activity including pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, and standing for long periods.
- Office work and offsite interactions with vendors and partners.
Education and Experience
- At least 2 years’ experience in warehouse, food shelf, or shipping/receiving roles, including equipment use.
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record, ability to operate a 16’ box truck.
- Experience supervising team members or volunteers.
