Job summary

Houston Food Bank is seeking a Warehouse Associate to manage daily inbound and outbound operations, including receiving, order selecting, unloading, loading, put-aways, replenishments, and sanitation. You will work across computer systems, maintain accurate labeling and storage, and support inventory reconciliation.

The role requires adherence to safety policies, forklift experience, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 6+ months of relevant experience preferred.
  • Forklift experience preferred in food warehousing, retail, or distribution.
  • Must complete forklift training and certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Attend to inbound and outbound operations including receiving, selecting, unloading, loading, put-aways, replenishments, and sanitation.
  • Operate warehouse systems with minimal direction.
  • Ensure products are received, moved, labeled, stored, and shipped securely and accurately.
  • Reconcile and maintain inventory accuracy and assist with training new employees.

Job description

The schedule for this role varies. However, associates must be available to work Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with a 4pm start until shipping operations is complete.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Warehouse Associate is responsible for the day-to-day tasks related to inbound and outbound operations, including receiving, order selecting, unloading, loading, put-aways, replenishments, and sanitation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Reliable, consistent, attendance is a requirement. This position requires punctuality and dependable attendance to meet the needs of the business, including attending and taking part in meetings and presentations.
  2. Follows all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  3. Ensures warehouse procedures, guidelines, and policies are met.
  4. Complies with food safety and sanitation procedures.
  5. Efficiently operates computer systems with minimal direction.
  6. Ensures product is received, unloaded, loaded, and stored securely packed and accurately labeled.
  7. Meets the minimum department productivity expectations.
  8. Identifies overages and missing or damaged products.
  9. Fulfills order selections and completes put-aways and replenishments.
  10. Inspects incoming products, labels them, and prepares them for shipping or storage.
  11. Assists in reconciliating and maintaining an accurate inventory by accurately selecting orders and not damaging product. .
  12. Communicates efficiently with management and teammates.
  13. Assists with training new employees.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma from an accredited school or general education development (GED) certificate.
  • 6+ months of relevant experience
  • Forklift experience
  • Experience in food warehousing, retail, or food distribution preferred

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Must complete HFB Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift) training and certification within 30 days of hire date

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in a warehouse environment, the employee is frequently exposed to different temperature-controlled environments including the cooler and freezer, wet and/or humid conditions, strong food-related smells, and outside weather conditions. The employee will be exposed to loud noise levels (e.g., horns, fans).

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

No travel is required for this role.

This role supports hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities, as necessary, and may require flexibility (e.g., times of disaster, community events, company events).
