Job summary

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington is seeking a Warehouse Assistant to support the SHARE Food Network facility and volunteer transportation team members during monthly distributions. This role ensures accurate inventory, safe handling of goods, and smooth site operations.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and at least one year in a warehouse setting; forklift and pallet jack training is expected. Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, with two Saturdays per month.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Regularly record and inspect warehouse inventory.
• Select space and prepare stock for storage; place materials in designated areas.
• Protect stock from damage, abuse, fire, and theft.
• Operate a forklift, pallet jack, and other loading equipment.
• Check incoming goods for quantity, type, and quality.
• Prepare food orders for delivery and verify accuracy.
• Assist volunteers, crews, host sites, and customers with loading.
• Provide janitorial services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Warehouse Assistant provides warehouse services for the SHARE Food Network facility and its customers. The position helps oversee and manage hundreds of volunteer transportation team members during each monthly distribution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Regularly record and inspect all warehouse inventory using appropriate software and recording methods.
• Select space and prepare stock for storage, processing, and place materials in designated areas.
• Protect stock from destruction, abuse, fire, and theft.
• Operate a forklift, manual hand trucks, and other equipment to load, unload trucks, and move and store food, materials and supplies.
• Check, and inspect incoming goods and materials to ensure accurate quantity, type, and acceptable quality.
• Prepare food orders for delivery and verify orders for accuracy.
• Assist crews, host sites, and other customers loading food into vehicles.
• Provide assistance and consultation for volunteers.
• Provide janitorial services.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

• High School diploma or GED.
• 1 year experience working in a warehouse environment.
• Trained in operating equipment such as forklift and pallet jack.

SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:

• Ability to perform data entry and maintain accurate records.
• Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, truck drivers, and the general public.
• Knowledge of computer systems (MS Office products).
