Job description

Major Responsibilities:

  • Serves as principal investigator or co-investigator on research studies aligned with either Advocate Health Nursing Strategic objectives, institutional priorities (e.g. Social Needs, life-span science including but not limited to older adult population, maternal health), and national contemporary nursing issues.
  • Leads project teams by incorporating team leadership principles (team dynamics and management) to develop and implement innovative research protocols, conduct analyses, develop study timelines and budgets, and disseminate findings through reports, abstracts, public presentations, and manuscripts. Plans and monitors all research protocol activities to ensure the ethical conduct of research. Serves as liaison to other research collaborators to navigate organizational requirements including sharing of relevant organizational and research-related information.
  • Commits a select percentage of time (up to 25% of FTE) to research and scholarly work addressing Advocate Health nursing priorities within a collaborative academic-clinical partnership between the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Advocate Health in the Walter Schroder research agreement (e.g. research practicum experience, independent studies, dissertation committee membership, Research-related teaching or workshops, DNP project committees).
  • Leverages research activities to achieve organization priorities such as the ANCC Magnet Program research standard fulfillment and collaborative Walter Schroeder research agreement (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Advocate Health). Collaborates with internal Advocate Health research partners (Advocate Aurora Research Institute, Wake Forest School of Medicine) in advancing nursing research studies.
  • Disseminates research findings through publication of manuscripts, external presentations (podium and poster). Mentors others in dissemination activities related to writing and public presentations. Seeks internal and external funding as appropriate to support research studies with an emphasis on defined institutional priorities.
  • Participates in regional and site-based Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Professional Governance councils contributing to achievement of governance-defined metrics through mentorship, collaboration, and service as a research and EBP expert.
  • Engages extensively with Vice-President of Nursing Excellence in Nursing Research, site Chief Nursing Officers, and interdisciplinary leaders to provide timely reports on research protocol progress, attainment of defined research objectives, attainment of Magnet-defined New Knowledge requirements, and analysis of potential research-related risks.
  • Provides consultation and supports achievement of written documentation requirements to fulfill research and innovation standards of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program. Provides regular updates to peers, research colleagues, and collaborative University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee partnership regarding current scholarly work engaged in or completed.
  • Provides expert consultation to institutional nursing initiatives including but not limited to those addressing professional governance, advancement of evidence-based clinical nursing practice, patient safety and quality, healthy work environments, and technology-based advancements. Participates in recruitment and mentoring of promising Advocate Health nurse teammates for career development directed at research doctorate (PhD) studies.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Professional Registered Nurse license (unencumbered)

Education Required:

  • Research Doctorate in Nursing (PhD) or a related field

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 7 years of experience in conducting research with an emphasis on either nursing science, informatics science, implementation science, translational science, and team science.
  • Several years of research experience reflected in publications, grant funding success.
  • Prior research experience with implementation science, specific populations (ex: geriatric, maternal health) is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to concisely communicate with key nursing, interdisciplinary, and defined academic collaborative partner leaders.
  • Delivery focused and able to work through the challenges of conducting multi-site research studies.
  • Expert in the conduct of research studies including proposal development, data analysis, publication and dissemination of findings within the lifespan.
  • Strong analytical thinker able to identify research gaps and key elements in defining a detailed research protocol and projected work for research teams.
  • Ability to build collaborative research relationships with key institutional and academic partner stakeholders in scientific studies across the lifespan.
  • Required skills include development of research and grant funding proposals, development of publishable manuscripts, oral presentation skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • This position is virtual and may require travel, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions. Virtual position location must be within HR approved state residencies.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • This position may require exposure to clinical environments therefore will be required to meet institutional requirements associated with clinical site work.

Additional Information:

  • Travel requirement will depend on dissemination of research at conferences. Potential for travel within our Advocate Health Divisions for research purposes. No specific percentage of time identified.
  • There is a strongcollaborative relationship with the entire Advocate Health Nursing Research team includingopportunities to collaborate with research colleagues throughout the Wisconsin, Illinois Divisions and those situated with the Wake Forest School of Medicine academic departments.
  • The position also has the potential for an adjunct faculty position within Wake Forest School of Medicine.
