Job Description

The Washington Community School District has an opening for someone who would be interested in driving a van to pick up WACO students and transport them to and from school.

Qualified applicants should have a positive attitude and patient demeanor that allows them to work well with students, parents, staff, and administration to help meet the needs of some of our most awesome students.

This position only requires a Class C License (normal driver’s license) with the D-3 endorsement. If an applicant has a good driving record, then usually the D-3 endorsement is just added with no driving test.

Applicant would need to have a Criminal History, Child and Dependent Abuse, and Driving History background check, a pre-employment drug screening, and a DOT physical completed upon hire. Applicants will need to complete the Department of Education online STOP Course (bus driver training) within 6 months of hire.

This position is considered a shuttle and is paid on a per hour basis at the District's shuttle rate of $25.91 per hour and would average around 2 - 2.5 hours per day. AM times are approximately 6:45 AM to 8:00 AM. PM times are approximately 3:15 PM - 4:30 PM .

Shuttle driving is paid on a as needed basis and paychecks are once per month on the 29th of each month. There is a 60 day period between the starting date and the first paycheck, but then paychecks are the 29th of each month through the rest of the school year.

This position is fluid and is dependent upon student educational/transportation needs, so it could change or be eliminated at any time as student educational requirements change.

Start date would be immediately after all licensing requirements, background checks, and pre-employment testing is completed. Preferred start date is 11/01/2026.

Deadline to apply is 3:00 PM, October 28, 2026. If there are no applicants, the shuttle will remain open until filled.
