The Vermont Veterans’ Home (VVH) is seeking an Institutional Custodian to join our team. Duties may include housekeeping and laundry; tasks include cleaning, mopping, laundry of linens, and delivery of laundry items.

Shift is 6:00 am–2:30 pm with weekends and holidays required. VVH provides patient-centered care in a residential setting for Veterans and their families.

The Vermont Veterans' Home (VVH) is currently seeking to hire an Institutional Custodian. This position may include housekeeping and/or laundry job duties. Housekeeping duties are mopping, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, cleaning of living spaces and common areas. Laundry duties are laundering linens and personal clothing, sorting and folding, delivery and pickup of laundry as well as operation of laundry machines.

The hours for this position is 6:00 am to 2:30 pm shift and include working weekends and holidays.

This position, VVH Institutional Custodian (Job Requisition #55693), is open to all State employees and external applicants. Multiple positions in the same work location may be filled from this job posting. Any person who has had a charge of abuse, neglect or exploitation substantiated against them is not eligible under the Vermont Veterans’ Home licensing requirements. Candidates, including current State employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, or persons exercising re-employment rights, must pass a fingerprint supported background investigation applicable to the position. Additionally, in accordance with Federal and State regulatory standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, Office of Inspector General exclusion database checks, motor vehicle driving record checks, and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates. Hiring managers will notify applicants who are in the final stage of the interview process of the fingerprinting and background check requirements, to which an applicant must agree to be deemed eligible for this position. Applicants will have the right to withdraw their applications before fingerprinting and/or a background investigation is conducted.

Duties are performed during an assigned shift at the Vermont Veterans’ Home. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition required. Considerable standing, walking, lifting, and carrying of heavy objects may be required. Weekend and evening hours may be required. Duties are performed in a nursing home environment, including office, common areas and patient care areas. Direct interactions with patients may be extensive, leading to potential exposure to infectious disease or physical injury. Incumbents must be prepared to drive a vehicle in all types of weather.

Minimum Qualifications

No specific education or experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one (1) year of experience as a custodian or housekeeper in a health care or other institutional setting.
