Vulnerability Engineer | Location: Chicago, IL | Contract

Hourly Pay Range: $90-$100

Join a dynamic team as a Vulnerability Engineer, where you'll lead the coordination and execution of vulnerability management initiatives across a hybrid environment of on-premises and AWS cloud infrastructure. This role offers an opportunity to drive operational excellence, implement automation, and develop strategies for near-real-time vulnerability remediation in a critical, 24/7 production setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate patching and vulnerability management activities with server, network, and cloud engineering teams to ensure consistent and aligned patch cycles.
• Design workflows, automation, and governance frameworks to optimize the vulnerability management system, ensuring seamless integration with security tools and enterprise platforms.
• Develop and refine patching strategies that support near-real-time remediation, assessing architectural barriers and evaluating tooling and automation opportunities.
• Apply cross-domain expertise in IT server and network administration, including on-premises infrastructure and AWS cloud solutions, to uphold standardized vulnerability management practices.
• Drive innovation and operational excellence within the vulnerability management program, fostering team development through cross-training, mentoring, and continuous learning.

Required Qualifications

• Extensive experience in server and network administration across on-premises and AWS cloud environments, with a focus on vulnerability management.
• Proven ability to coordinate patching activities across multiple infrastructure teams, driving accountability and execution.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing workflows, automation, and governance frameworks that enhance vulnerability management systems.
• Strong knowledge of vulnerability scanning and assessment tools, including CVE analysis, CVSS scoring, and remediation frameworks.
• Familiarity with ServiceNow Security Vulnerability Response (SVR) module, Qualys, and integration with enterprise systems.
• Hands-on experience with Windows Server, Linux (RHEL), and VMware/vSphere patching workflows.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in patching and vulnerability management, with industry-recognized certifications preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications such as CISSP, ITIL, or similar.
• Experience supporting high-availability or 24/7 production environments with strategies like rolling patch windows, blue/green deployment, or live patching.
