Job summary

Talan Group in NYC is seeking a VP-level Senior Java Developer to lead market data and trading technology initiatives. You will design, develop, and maintain enterprise Java applications while guiding architectural decisions and technical direction.

Responsibilities include mentoring engineers, collaborating with traders and quants, and driving delivery with strong emphasis on performance, security, and production readiness.

Qualifications

• Degree in CS/Engineering/Finance/Quantitative Finance required.
• 10–15 years of software development experience, preferably in financial services.
• Strong hands-on Java (JDK 11/17), Spring, Spring Boot, and related frameworks.
• Experience with Camel, REST, JMS/ActiveMQ, and authentication frameworks.
• Solid database and architecture knowledge with MS SQL Server or Sybase.
• Proven track record leading technical delivery and mentoring teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop enterprise-grade server-side Java apps for market data and trading.
• Provide technical leadership across architecture, design, and delivery.
• Mentor developers through reviews and best practices.
• Partner with traders, quants, product, and tech stakeholders.
• Develop system architectures, designs, and implementation concepts.
• Provide estimates and support delivery planning.
• Drive SDLC standards including testing, releases, and resilience.
• Maintain code quality with automated tests, coverage, and security checks.
• Contribute across full software delivery lifecycle from requirements to production support.
