Overview
The Vice President of Risk and Controls is a key leadership position within the Lakeview Originations team, responsible for providing strategic vision, leadership, and overall guidance related to the maturity of the core operational risk program, Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA). This leader will drive the maturity of the RCSA program, ensuring risks are identified, measured, monitored, assessed, managed, and reported effectively across the Originations business. The incumbent will also serve as the risk officer responsible for maintaining the Risk Issues Log and Control Library, supporting both proactive risk management and issue remediation efforts. This fully remote position offers a competitive salary of $140,000 to $160,000, an annual bonus, benefits starting on day one, and a company-matched 401(k) plan.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end risk identification and assessments for Consumer Direct and Correspondent Lending teams in accordance with enterprise risk policies.
- Ensure RCSA framework meets regulatory and agency expectations and aligns with industry best practices.
- Plan and perform risk reviews of operational procedures and controls to assess design and effectiveness.
- Proactively partner with business leaders to recommend and drive process and control enhancements in response to identified gaps or improvement opportunities.
- Develop and deliver clear reporting on risk management issues, control deficiencies, and root cause analysis – along with actionable recommendations.
- Serve as the lead on the Issues Management Policy by conducting bi-weekly meetings with business stakeholders, evaluating business action plans, and approving issue remediation.
- Promote a culture of risk awareness and control ownership through consistent communication and training.
- Review and provide risk-focused feedback on business line procedures to ensure appropriate control documentation and monitoring practices are in place.
- Collaborate with Compliance, Internal Audit, and other business stakeholders to support integrated risk activities.
- Participate in key business initiatives and projects to provide risk perspective and control recommendations.
- Manage, mentor, and develop team members, including performance reviews and development action plans.
- Stay current on emerging risks, regulatory changes, and process trends to integrate insights into ongoing work and process design.
- Act as a risk leader for agency operational reviews and assist with development of remediation packages as applicable.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in the mortgage industry, including at least 8 years in Risk Management, Capital Markets or Underwriting.
- 5+ years in a leadership role, with demonstrated experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong knowledge of operational risk frameworks and internal control methodologies within financial services.
- Deep understanding of mortgage lending, including capital markets, originations, and investor products.
- Knowledge of mortgage revenue, cost drivers, and profitability metrics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint for data analysis and presentations.
- Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills across internal teams and external partners.
- Proven ability to develop deep business process knowledge and stay current on industry and regulatory changes.
- Self-directed with sound judgment, strong problem-solving abilities, and decision-making capability.
