VP & Residential Underwriting Manager - Mortgage Underwriting

Location: Remote (100%)

Market: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Work Hours: 37.5 hours/week

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred, or a minimum of 10 years of related residential underwriting experience or an equivalent combination of both.
  • Previous management experience required.
  • FHA DE, VA SAR/LAPP designations preferred.
  • Current knowledge of RESPA regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA programs, and appraisal regulations.
  • Consumer lending experience and process improvement background is a plus.
Job Description

Summary: Responsible for managing daily workflow of residential loan files, making sound decisions within risk parameters, investor guidelines, and credit policies. Collaborates closely with EVP and senior credit officers to review team productivity, quality, and compliance.

Essential Functions
  • Ensure compliance with banking regulations and complete all required training.
  • Manage and monitor daily workflow to meet Service Level Agreements.
  • Maintain expertise in agency and company guidelines, internal processes, and functions as SME.
  • Establish and update underwriting policies and procedures.
  • Make sound underwriting decisions, escalate complex cases, and collaborate with MLOs and management.
  • Oversee quality, compliance, and performance of underwriting staff.
  • Provide support on complex questions, review tax returns, and respond to audits.
  • Maintain knowledge of secondary market guidelines, regulations, and appraisal standards.
  • Manage appraiser list and review appraisals.
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Exceptional customer service and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and maintain confidentiality under pressure.
Computer Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, 10+ years of AUS experience, familiarity with Encompass or similar LOS preferred.
Certificates and Licenses
  • FHA Delegated Underwriter, VA Automatic Underwriter, VA SAR, and ability to obtain secondary market approvals.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for hiring, training, performance management, and resolving employee issues following organizational policies and laws.
