Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a strategic Product Leader to transform Optum Insight's payer offerings. This executive will drive product innovation from ideation to market adoption, aligning with regulatory shifts and health-plan economics to deliver measurable value.

The role supports remote work from anywhere in the U.S., with in-office days in the Minneapolis area required for some teams. Leadership across product, design, data science, and engineering is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 10+ years of product management or product strategy experience, including senior/executive-level ownership of a product portfolio.
• Experience spanning Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, DSNP, and/or ACA Marketplace lines of business a plus.
• Track record building and scaling programs or products at enterprise scale.
• Experience partnering with clinical, coding, legal, or compliance stakeholders in a regulated industry preferred.

Strategic leader responsible for the transformation of Optum Insight's Payer product offerings. This executive will drive strategic product innovation and transformation - from ideation to execution and market adoption - with a particular focus on applying emerging trends and technologies to modernize legacy workflows, ensuring solutions meet the evolving needs of health plans, emerging regulatory requirements, and deliver measurable business value. This role will bridge clinical, technical, and financial stakeholders, both internally and with clients, to maintain a competitive edge in a dynamic and increasingly automated healthcare landscape.

Primary Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Innovation

• Execute product transformation strategy and roadmap, aligning with organizational goals, regulatory shifts, and market trends to simplify healthcare
• Drive disruptive innovation and AI-powered products, platforms, and business models that unlock new revenue streams across Optum Insight
• Inform partnership strategy, pricing, and competitive positioning against both traditional vendors and new entrants. Lead build/buy/partner evaluation process and decisions.
• Establish clear success metrics, roadmaps, and outcome-based KPIs to ensure innovations deliver measurable business value, customer satisfaction, and market differentiation
• Bring operating knowledge of health plan economics to ensure product decisions reflect how clients actually run programs day to day
• Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks and drive continuous improvement
• Evaluate emerging trends to inform solution design and strategic innovation

Market Insights & Opportunities

• Formulate and execute strategies to identify opportunities for new clients, markets, and offerings across Payer domains
• Serve as a thought leader and trusted advisor internally and externally, translating market insights, client needs, and competitive intelligence into actionable product strategies
• Coordinate across product domains to deliver market-leading perspectives on disruptive capabilities, emerging technologies, and approaches for simplifying healthcare
• Translate fluently across clinical, technical, compliance, legal, and executive audiences

Talent & Team Leadership

• Build and develop high-performing, cross-functional product teams (product, design, data science, engineering) by identifying individual strengths and pairing complementary skill sets
• Serve as a mentor and talent developer, elevating team members' capabilities and career trajectories alongside product outcomes

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required
• 10+ years of product management or product strategy experience, including senior/executive-level ownership of a product portfolio, ideally in healthcare payer, health tech, or related payer function
• Experience spanning Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, DSNP, and/or ACA Marketplace lines of business a plus
• Track record building and scaling programs or products at enterprise scale (multi-state, multi-million-member, or equivalent complexity)
• Experience partnering with clinical, coding, legal, or compliance stakeholders in a regulated industry preferred

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $200,400 to $343,500 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
