Position Summary

The Vice President, Product - Insurance & Financial Product Services, is responsible for delivering business outcomes by continually enhancing capabilities that improve experiences for Thrivent’s clients, advisors, and team members. This role oversees the product vision, principles, and strategy of their division and fosters effective product management within their teams. They will translate corporate strategy into product direction and collaborate with enterprise leaders to support growth in new areas.

Key partnerships include, but are not limited to, In-Force, New Business and Underwriting, Operations Development & Relations, Contact Center, TIMI, TAN, GCO, DD&T, Product Operation Model, Insurance Solutions, and Actuarial. The leader will actively engage with senior functional leaders to ensure excellent service delivery and strategic alignment.

This role is a key member of the Operations Leadership Team, reporting directly to the SVP, Head of Operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the vision, principles, and strategy for their division, providing clear context and objectives aligned with corporate goals, and communicate effectively with executives.
• Design and iterate on the organizational structure of product teams to align resources with user challenges and business priorities, empowering teams to seize key opportunities.
• Manage investments across product portfolios, including budgeting and staffing, ensuring high return on investment.
• Collaborate with product, business, and technology leaders to achieve business outcomes through best practices and iterative development.
• Guide stakeholders in adopting a product mindset and maturing the operating model, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Engage regularly with users and stakeholders to identify needs, test hypotheses, and refine solutions, representing user interests across the enterprise.
• Resolve conflicts constructively through collaboration and influence.
• Maintain advanced knowledge of the business, products, and product management principles.
• Recruit, develop, and sustain a high-performing team, promoting shared accountability and operational excellence.
• Demonstrate leadership competencies such as courage, collaboration, and commitment, exemplifying resiliency and accountability.

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

• Master’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Business or related fields.
• 10+ years relevant experience, including in product management roles.
• Understanding of iterative development, software processes, and Agile principles.
• Expertise in stakeholder management, market/user research, technology management, and process design.
• Strong knowledge of Insurance Products and Product Manufacturing.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Passion for new technology and trends.
• Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influence skills at all organizational levels.
• Supervisory experience.
• Proven success in developing business cases, roadmaps, and enterprise strategies.
• Ability to manage conflicting priorities effectively.
• Experience in developing product strategies with clear metrics and outcomes.
• Financial management skills to oversee budgets and ensure ROI.
• Experience leading large initiatives and cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency with product management tools and principles across the entire cycle.
• Proven leadership in multiple product team contexts.

Preferred:

• Certified Product Manager or similar certification.
• Advanced skills in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
