Role Summary/Purpose:

We are hiring a passionate VP, Principal Data Engineering Manager to lead the development of a cutting-edge, consumer-focused, low-latency analytics platform. This role involves modernizing and transforming legacy systems within a dynamic environment and acting as a data solution architect to influence high-level decisions across data and analytics platforms at Synchrony.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Design scalable, robust, and secure data architectures that integrate with existing and new infrastructure.
  • Lead analysis, design, development, implementation, and testing of data engineering applications in agile teams.
  • Ensure solutions align with business needs, scalability, and current technology trends.
  • Evaluate and recommend data technologies, platforms (Cloud, Data lakes, Data warehouses), and tools (ETL/ELT).
  • Define data workflows, pipelines, and data movement strategies.
  • Monitor and optimize data architectures for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements in data pipelines and storage solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including migration from On-Premises to AWS S3 & Redshift.
  • Experience in designing and tuning Redshift data warehouses and ETL pipelines for AWS.
  • Implement data governance, security measures (including PII and PCI standards), and access controls.
  • Collaborate with data architects to reuse data structures and ensure scalable, resilient data applications.
  • Drive enterprise data lake and warehouse standards, especially in cloud environments.
  • Work cross-functionally with teams to meet business objectives and participate in Agile processes.
  • Maintain documentation, best practices, and stay updated on emerging data technologies.
  • Lead initiatives in AI/ML, predictive analytics, and real-time data processing.
  • Mentor and coach team members to foster company values and culture.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 7+ years of relevant experience, or 15+ years of experience with a high school diploma/GED.
  • 7+ years in enterprise data solutions, including data warehousing, ELT/ETL, with experience in cloud platforms like AWS.
  • 3+ years managing high-performance engineering teams.
  • Proficiency with AWS services such as S3, Redshift, IAM, KMS, Athena, Glue, CloudWatch, EC2.
  • AWS Solution Architect certification preferred.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Experience as a Data Solution Architect in scaled Agile environments.
  • Expertise in big data platforms, containerization, and cloud solutions.
  • Experience managing mission-critical data applications.
  • Ability to work in challenging, globally distributed teams.
  • Strong communication skills and experience in regulated environments like banking or fintech.
  • Proven track record of implementing complex data solutions and thought leadership in data engineering.
Additional Information:

Salary range: $135,000 - $230,000 USD annually, plus potential bonuses. Compensation varies based on experience, skills, and market location.

  • Must be 18 or older, with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks, drug testing, and fingerprinting.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. required; no visa sponsorship provided.
